SPORE!
Hyped for the game & was disappointed when I bought it but I played it & tried to make myself like it.
But guess what that never happened.
Games that you wish you never bought
There's a ton of games I was disappointed by, but as lame as it is to say I never really regret getting them because it's the only way I'd really know if they were bad or not.
Turn n Burn no fly zone for the snes back in the 90s. I had been a fan of PC sims, so I wanted to give a game of this type a try on a console. Big mistake. I should've rented this first.
Oblivion - not to say it's a bad game, I loved it when it first hit shelves. I played through it numerous times, and loved it for all it was worth. But I spent three hours with it after purchasing from steam and went 'meh' and uninstalled a few days later. Lightning doesn't strike twice it seems.
Global Agenda - no fuck you Global Agenda, I wanted to love you. I really did, but you made me hate you. This is YOU not me. If I hear it's improving I may reinstall and go back later though.
Splinter Cell: Conviction - I liked the game itself. It just ran so terribly on my pc I couldn't really enjoy it. Not to mention I couldn't even PLAY co-op. Also: I KNOW YOU'RE THERE, FISHER. COME OUT.
Age of Conan CE and a prepaid 60-day subscription thing
Warhammer Online and a prepaid 60-day subscription thing
^--------Those two have taught me to wait a couple of months/half a year to see if an MMO gathers/maintains a healthy user base or fails miserably so I guess it wasn't a TOTAL waste...
Call of Duty World at War for pc, never got past first mission due to a game-crashing issue and multiplayer was worthless too because punkbuster kept kicking me out of servers for weird, faulty reasons.
DMC 4
UT III for pc, the player-base was never good and if I recall correctly, some 6 months after release my server browser app reported maybe a few thousand players online
Peter Jackson's King Kong... Yeah.
Probably some other games too, can't remember.
"Mortal Kombat vs. DC
LittleBigPlanet
Sacred 2
"
Mortal Kombat vs DC is another one for me. Bought it, had a bit of fun beating up Superman and that was it. Literally have only played it once.
I also own Sacred, Sacred 2 and Titan Quest. I tend to buy a lot of these Diablo clones and then never actually play them. Still plan to though, and I got all of them so cheap I wouldn't say I regret getting them.
I don't generally regret my purchases. Usually I'm fine with the games I get, even if they are awful. The problem for me is if I have no want to ever play them again or got absolutely nothing out of it. Those are rare but they are coming up more often recently then in the past generations.
I think my biggest regrets of purchase are Final Fantasy XIII and Too Human. That's not just a cop out, either. I genuinely tried with both these games to find the value in them. FFXIII, after about 20 hours I couldn't stand the blandness anymore and Too Human I pretty much felt the same.
I have hundreds of games though, most in boxes, some in Digital. Out of all those, having only two that I loathe and wish I hadn't wasted money on isn't that bad. Altho, to be fair, last gen I have alot I probably wouldn't miss either haha
