We have all heard of the of, and many have been victim of 'hackers' groupd in the last few months and when I just finished reading the story of Lulzsec disbanding I shed a little smile in hopes that we can all begin to move past the ever present hacking stories that have plagued the industry in the last few months.

Here is a link to the story as well as a quote:

A publicity-seeking hacker group that has left a trail of sabotaged websites over the last two months, including attacks on law enforcement and releases of private data, said unexpectedly on Saturday it is dissolving itself.

Lulz Security made its announcement through its Twitter account. It gave no reason for the disbandment, but it could be a sign of nerves in the face of law enforcement investigations. Rival hackers have also joined in the hunt, releasing information they say could point to the identities of the six-member group.

Here's hoping to less privacy intrusion.

I love how these guys think that quitting all of this BS makes them all okay. The FBI has their names and all kinds of shit to prove they did what they did.

They can quit, but I'm more than positive that we'll be hearing about them getting arrested in the near future.

Good, I hope the other hackers end up helping and catch them all. You know, for the lulz.

These guys got caught up in the lime light of all the shit they were pulling, thought they were untouchable, looks like they got a reality check awful quick.

What did they even fucking do that was worth while, they tried to come off as these do-gooders with some morale cause to show the world how fucked up everything is.  They didnt do shit, They shut a few sights down for about a day, stole worthless information unless you plan to commit fraud.

IMO they left the world a worse place then when they started.....

Maybe the involvement of th3J3st3r has something to do with this? I would think that the guy who took down terrorist sites would be a bit of a legend among hackers.

He's a douche. An oblivious, raving douche. However, the people feeding him the lulzsec dox seem to be sharp.

See I don't really pay any attention to this stuff so I would have no idea. All I remember about him was that he took down Al-Qaeda and Taliban websites and that seemed like a good thing at the time.

What's even more hilarious is how many donations these guys said they got. Granted, they were all "bitcoins", but still. To think people actually donated to them for being asshats. Glad they got their shit handed to them by other hackers and will likely be facing prosecution in the future.

It's also crazy that they have over 200,000 followers on Twitter.  No way in hell they deserve that kind of support.

Guessing that when they started looking into the hacking of Sega & wanting to go after them they found it was someone in the group. Good riddance & hoping they have a long vacations away from computers when they get arrested.

With every passing day, I find myself more and more assured that 2012 isn't the end of the world; It's the beginning of natural selection.

People are reaching a critical mass of stupidity, and when The Reapers show up, only the smart, like-minded and strong-willed individuals will prevail, creating a new society in which mankind is not doomed by our own hand.

Apparently they released a lot of usernames, passwords, and emails from various video game forums. Anyone know which ones were hit? Kinda like to know if I'll have to change up some passwords.

https://shouldichangemypassword.com/

Website integrates recent leaks that contain e-mail/password pairs, many of them the public LulzSec leaks, and searches them. The website claims it doesn't contain passwords; only leaked e-mail addresses. I haven't experimented, but it would be easy to test by looking through one of LulzSec's leaks and putting in an e-mail address, which should trigger a reaction from the site. (Pretty fun that.)

The alternative would be searching through leaks by hand.

It's purported to be safe (i.e. not a spam catch.) Picked out a media outlet speaking about it; the name of the guy who made it is public knowledge.

They might disband the group, but I'm sure those involved with find other hacking groups to join. I'm pretty sure someone started getting too close to them, and they freaked out and they're disbanding to stay low and hopefully avoid arrest (which is a smart thing to do). I strongly doubt they disbanded because 50 days was up - they never said anything else about a time limit. Their leaked logs don't show them to be the cool, calm and collected folks they desperately tried to be, but as a bunch of jerks who were full of themselves while simultaneously being terrified of getting caught.

Now, I don't hate Lulzsec. Sure, they were annoying. Sure, they were obnoxious and arrogant and completely hypocritical, but they weren't evil. Just annoying. If I had to punish them, I'd give them half a year in jail (maybe not even that much) and a couple hundred hours of community service.

I think their exposing how much of a joke Sony's security is was a good thing, if only for the reason that it was better them stealing your credit card info 'for the lulz' than it would have been some hacking group in Romania who promptly use your money to set up meth labs or some shit.

But they were also cockheads, and this is the fate that awaits all cockheads.

Lol, I hope they enjoy federal "pound me in the ass" prison. Thier Lulz all cost them several decades in prison. White collar criminals still get put away. It just takes a little longer than the guy holding up a bank.

Day 1:

"Murderer/rapist: What did you?"

"LulSec guy: I hacked the gibson."

"Murder/rapist: I don't know what that means but you should know I use blood for anal lube."

"LulSec guy: What? OOOWWWWWW!!!!!!"

I was thinking more along the lines of "The de facto in Internet security isn't secure enough," but your idea works too.
