HELL YES HELL YES HELL YES, PSP Phone
I knew it was going to happen, but this is still massive amounts of awesome, if it does.
" I too have been thinking of this. But I do prefer the original PSP design over the Go. "Yep, but anything with Android and strong gaming possibilities, I will look past the design.
It's kindof an obvious thing to do. But neat!
What's with the little area between the face buttons? Place for analog sliders? Off-screen touchpad?
edit: oops. yes it is a touchpad. NICE. The PS Move controller should have had one instead of that awkward arc logo thing in the middle.
Shame there are only two shoulder buttons. But the touch pad is at least one step above the PSP.
" I just got a PSP go >_> (Fuck the haters, I'm lovin' it) "Hooray!
I was interested in getting it, but isn't the screen small?
" " instead of the small joystick, the device will have what was described as a "long touch pad" " ya lost me "yeah, I can't see that working, but....maybe?
" " instead of the small joystick, the device will have what was described as a "long touch pad" " ya lost me "Is that what the kids will be calling it now? o.O
" @thehexeditor said:Not really, it's only .2 inches smaller, but that is so little of a difference, it doesn't matter at all." I just got a PSP go >_> (Fuck the haters, I'm lovin' it) "Hooray! I was interested in getting it, but isn't the screen small? "
" @Axxol said:I'm aware of that, but it still looks terrible." That looks terrible. "It's a mock-up by engadget. "
" @luce said:Compared to what? That god awful single analog slider on the PSP? A touchpad is the second best thing to an analog stick (well those analog nubs on laptops are probably closer but nobody uses them anymore and they wouldn't fit under the phone) and the extra wideness makes it work for both thumbs. It's better than touching the screen and blocking your vision to use what's already an approximation of an analog stick." " instead of the small joystick, the device will have what was described as a "long touch pad" " ya lost me "yeah, I can't see that working, but....maybe? "
" @NekuSakuraba: It's a bit smaller than the other model but it just sounds worse when you say "it's smaller" than how it is in reality- it's not like the screen suddenly turned into something you gotta use a microscope for. I like that it's lighter, more compact, and doesn't have the silly oh-so-breakable UMD drive. The d-pad/buttons/triggers all feel much better and tactile (though the analog stick is pretty much the same). "I do my portable gaming at home, so....
The support of Remote Play with PS3 is also gonna rock. The since the touchpad will work as a dual analog solution, there might be more and more PS3 games getting Remote Play support. Not only this but with that PlayOn program and Remote Play, I can watch my anything from netflix, hulu, my personal collection of vids or music on my PC, from my phone without paying for extra mobile services from these sites.
" @BestUsernameEver said:Touch and gaming have no business being together. Using a touch pad is far worse than an analog nub because you can't tell where you are tracking, so something like turning is a racing game, would not be able to give feedback as to where your finger is in correlation to the progress of an accurate turn. It's a nightmare for game design, and that's why (still using racing for my example), racing games on iPod touch mostly use the accelerometer, because touching to move is downright stupid design." @luce said:Compared to what? " I just hope it will be coming to T-Mobile. Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint will be way to expensive too pay for something like this. They will charge fees after fees just for the gaming feature. "agreed, I am too on TMobile. and id like to see a carrier market it like a phone, and not charge extra for PSP features.

That is interesting that it runs the Android OS... you would think sony would come up with their own thing.

I'm a huge fan of Android, so that's the main reason why I'm interested in this, but it depends on what type of games they put out for this. Are they going for full PSP style games? I'd assume so, but I'd doubt Google would let them into the market if they only work on one phone. Cross compatibility with current PSP games would be a huge help too, but that sounds doubtful too. PSN online support?
Didn't Sony Playstation flat out say no to Sony Ericsson using their branding or making a hybrid of their phones? Does anyone remember this? I guess they turned around when they thought they could turn a profit. I don't know, the concept sounds awesome but we haven't seen it done well yet. I will wait for more info.
