So I was able to procure a Kinect this past weekend without paying a dime for it. I was also able to get Dance Central at the same time. I now have no idea what I should do with this thing. My wife and I like Dance Central well enough (she loves it actually and is already 5-starring some songs on hard) and I went ahead and bought Fruit Ninja (which is very underwhelming and harder than I would have expected). I thought I might try and rent Child of Eden but other than that is there anything that's worth checking out? Perhaps easy achievement points that isn't frustrating? Thanks for any help bombers!

Nope. If you got it for free, selling it is the most value you're ever going to get out of the thing.

Just keep playing Dance Central then play Dance Central 2 when that comes out.

The Gunstringer demo was released today, that's meant to be a pretty good Kinect game. I'd give that a try.

@Chabbs0: oh cool, I didn't know the demo was out.

@theplatypus: I don't get rid of game hardware unless I have extras. This is why I still have all my systems and most attachments since the Atari...also I would have gotten rid of my Wii a long time ago otherwise.

I know it seems like a cash-in and on paper it certainly is, but Kinect Sports is actually pretty dense with content and fun. The Achievements are not stupidly easy and require some skill, but they're fair and fun.

Your Shape is a surprisingly well-implemented fitness game.

I really like Child of Eden, but it depends on if you have an issue with how short it is. The quality is there but the length is not and it's a full-priced product.

I'm mildly curious to play for Child of Eden and Forza 4 with a Kinect.

Do you like games that control poorly? Do you like games with a gimmick that is fun for a few minutes? If you answered yes to either of those, then keep the Kinect and buy games for it.

If not then you can either sell it or keep it around to show off to any guests you have. They can be impressed for a few minutes, then you should quickly switch it off and play a real game with a controller before they discover how shallow all those games are.

Whoa! As much as I disagree with most of Kinect, I absolutely love the workout games and I've gotten plenty of time out of it. (my friend has it)

I'll second the recommendations for Kinect Sports and YourShape (if you're interested in working out).  The big surprise for me was Kinect Sports, I thought it was going to be another mediocre Wii Sports, but the depth and quality really surprised me.  Definitly check it out.

@ronin00: You just described many games that don't use the Kinect. In fact, that almost sounds similar to Deus Ex: HR.

Yup. That's what I do and am going to be doing with it.

Kinect Sports is decent too, and I play a little Kinect Adventures with my son from time to time.
Child of Eden was very cool but I would suggest just renting unless you're really into the idea of 100%ing it.

Your Shape is a visual trip and a really good workout if you use it regularly.

I could tell how legitimate it was as a workout program by how quickly I stopped doing it :P

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll probably rent most of these since there are too many games this fall to replace one with a kinect game....but I am thinking of getting dance central 2 now.

Now I am not a die hard Deus Ex fan, but I don't really see the comparison between Deus Ex and Kinect games?

The main thing my Kinect does is sit there and switch to the Kinect menu every time I say "that sucks" (sounds like Xbox) while playing PC or PS3.

Gunstringer demo is out.

Also for the other Microsoft just announced the stand alone Kinect sensor bundle. It includes Kinect Adventures and Child of Eden and the sensor.

I was super excited for The Gunstringer, but I'm still not convinced that it isn't a 15 dollar download in a 40 dollar box.

Put it in a drawer and hold on to it until next year when you can break it out to play Kinect Star Wars and be disappointed all over again.

Well the good news is there's a Demo of it out today, so give that a shot - I haven't gotten it yet but plan on checking it out when I get home.

Also, it's a Twisted Pixel game, I really want to support their first boxed release on principle alone. Throw in the Fruit Ninja Kinect, we're easily up to $25 in a $40 box, but stop to add in all the crazy crap TP likes to add to their games we're likely looking at: themes, avatar items, and maybe even additional levels for Ms. Splosion man (Comic Jumper came with an extra level or two for the original Splosion Man).

Yeah I'm extra torn because of that. I find those guys really funny but they're not exactly a sure thing when it comes to my tastes. The Maw was okay, Splosion man was excellent, Comic Jumper was funny but not very good and I haven't played Ms. Splosionman because of the iffy things I've heard about it.

If these guys has a flawless track record I'd probably bite the bullet and go for it but as it stands I think I'll wait and see.

...but this isn't about my Kinect, it's about Sam's :P
