It was kinda neat back in the days of the N64 when ya had the big-ass Rumble Pak weighing down your controller, but at this point I'm not really fussed.
I hardly even notice rumbling anymore unless a game gets excessive with it.
Is controller vibration a vital part of your gaming experience?
I love me some vibration. Its wouldn't be the same with no rumble on those heavy Slap-shots from the point or when unloading a Machine gun all at once.
If done right, it can make all the difference. In fact, I hope with the next generation of consoles they improve upon it.
Experiences like unloading a whole magazine as a medic in BC2 and having your hands tingling from all the rumble make it worthwhile.
I turn vibration off with all of my consoles. I feel it actually detracts from the overall game experience. I remember trying to play Halo 3 at a friends house, and when firing a gun in that game, the controller vibrates. He had his vibration enabled, and I kept wondering why I was so inaccurate in comparison to when I was playing any shooter at home. For some reason, vibration throws me off completely. I always have disabled it when playing videogames; even when I owned a Playstation and Playstation 2, I turned all controller vibration off. It wasn't something that added to any game experience I can recall.
Can't remember which Half Life episode it is, maybe 2 but you're going along with Alyx and you're getting these tremours every few minutes and blurring of the screen. That experience would be nothing without the associated rumble. And Mr. M60 BFBC2 I agree with you so much, guns firing is so much better with rumble. I've heard about competition level players turning it off for accuracy but for for normal level immersive play you're robbing yourself of something just for the sake of some poxy battery time. Get rechargeables, have them ready. If somebody is poking me with their finger in a game then rumble makes it more real.

The only game that needs vibration is Rez.
" No I was happy when they PS3 controller took it out "I always thought the SIXAXIS was missing a little weight, especially compared to the DualShock 3.
Personally, it hardly matters on a traditional controller. But on a racing wheel, it either there or I ain't buying it.
" I always enjoy it, but I mostly take it for granted these days. If I had to play without it, I think I would really miss it. I remember those giant rumble packs that they sold for the N64. Those things were badass. "Agreed.
