Is Street Fighter v Mortal Kombat still relevant?

I was firmly in the SF camp in the 16 bit console days.  SF4 was well received and Jeff is creaming himself over the new MK.  Who will be the king of fighters?

Surely King of Fighters XIII will be the king of fighters.
 
That or, you know, Virtua Fighter.

It's definitely still relevant. I'm very glad to see MK is making a big violent comeback.

I think it's still relevant, but Street Fighter seems to have a pretty strong hold on the market.  Maybe I'm just too outside of the fighting community to know for sure though... 
 
I'm wondering how truthful Ed Boon was in his GB interview from E3 where he said that they had decided to do a 2D fighter before SFIV dropped. It does feel a little bit bandwagon-y to me at this point. But who knows.

Street Fighter was always king and still is. Unless MK9 is fantastic there's still no debate.

I have always felt like it was between KoF and SF, while MK was just off cutting itself in a dark corner. Besides, there's plenty of room in the market for them to not be competing directly with each other. Tekken 6 sold a few million and that was in pretty much direct competition with SF4.

Depends how good MK9 will be.

Games are too different to mean something. The Capcom vs. SNK rivalry made more sense back in the 90's

IMO, MK and SF make totally different styles of fighting games.  MK always seemed much more rote and combo heavy than SF to me.

SF > MK

I'm excited about MK9 and it looks great but we'll see. It has a lot to make up for with recent MK games.

It was never relevant, like Ryan said on the bombcast. Mk was all about the insane bat shit stuff and extra violence where SF there was a real game to be had. 

Not really. MK had to rip off Street Fighter just to become even a little relevant again.
