Just off the top of your head, which console do you think sold more units?

What do you think sold more just from the top of your head? Don't go looking up stats and everything else, just what do you think? 
 
I think the Playstation 2 sold more, but I might be in for a surprise of I look at the charts...

I'm pretty sure the PS2 has sold over 150 million units worldwide, and while I haven't been keeping up with Wii sales figures, I can't imagine they're even close to 100 million yet, nevermind 150. They're probably somewhere between 50 million and 75 million. So yeah, the PS2 is waaay ahead, with more than double the number of units as the wii, by my rough guesses.

The poll is still kinda unfair. The PS2 was released in 2000 while the Wii was released in late 2006. A lot more people were into gaming by 2006 than in 2000, but the PS2 has had a lot more years to rack up sales.

Come on though, you have to think, with alllllllll the kids in the world now wanting to buy their first console, everybody wants a Wii. I don't know any 10 year olds saying, "I want to buy a PS2 for my birthday!"

Does it count against me if I already have looked it up? The Wii's actually nowhere near the PS2 right now, about halfway, ~60 million to between 110 and 120 million units, respectively, if I remember correctly. The PS2's the best selling console in history. Maybe the Wii will overtake it but I doubt it. Sales are starting to slip and the PS2 was still going full bore at this stage in its life cycle

PS2.Even Shigeru Miyamoto has one of those.

The Playstation 2, of course. It's been out for six years longer. 
 
To be honest, I don't know if the Wii will ever outsell it. The PS2 is a console everyone bought, but the Wii isn't very popular with the "mature", "hardcore" gamers.

Since the PS2 still outsells the 360 in Japan and has been out for nearly 10 years, it's got to easily be the PS2.

Sure it does. Maybe it doesn't have much competition in the market of people who aren't traditional gamers, but you can bet your ass it has competition amongst gamers, which is a huge fucking market.

Also, I don't see why you compare the two, as just about everyone has said, the PS2 has had the benefit of already experiencing just about 99% of its eventual total sales. Whereas the Wii still has 2-3 more years of great sales. If you truly wanted to compare the two, go out and find how many PS2s were sold in an equal amount of time as the Wii.

I voted PS2, because its the system that deserved to sell more.

The PS2 will have easily sold more now, but the Wii is still going. I am pretty sure that when both these consoles are done and nothing but a distant memory, the Wii will have sold more but for now...it's the PS2.

I'd say the PS2.

Wii needs to double its total sales to catch PS2 - I think that's unlikely.  We'll probably see Wii 2, Wii 3D or Wii HD before Wii 1 ever gets close to that.
