i'm going to be doing a lot of traveling, and something i can run on my laptop while sitting on a plane for 14 hours at a time would be ideal
i've always been a fan of the final fantasy series, and the persona 4 endurance run got me really interested in that series. something where i run around, grind levels, cast spells and just generally waste a lot of time would be ideal (all without an internet connection)
any suggestions? looking for something specifically for PC
looking for a good turn-based rpg
i actually played ff7 on the pc, ha
emulators are fine too, but i was curious if there is anything new out there?
there's plenty of stuff out for ps3/360, but i haven't seen anything that looks like it's worth picking up for the pc lately
The PC is not really known for it's turn based RPGs as all I can think of are the above-mentioned FF7,8... but...
Download Zsnes & download some 16-bit RPGs. The Super Nintendo/Super Famicon had a lot of great turn based RPGs.
There have also been a lot of fan english-translations for many Japanese RPGs that didn't make it to the US such as Tales of Phantasia, Dragon Quest V & VI.
And if you've never played it, you owe it to yourself to play Super Mario RPG, developed by Nintendo & Squaresoft. As well as Earthbound. And all the Final Fantasy's. Enjoy.
if you aren;t worried about an emulator; play Persona 4 through a PS2 emulator.
Buy a PSP and play Persona 1 on it.
The infinity engine games like Baldurs Gate, Fallout etc can all be played in a turn based manner even though its not the default setting. They are amazing and in the case of Baldurs Gate 2 and its expansion/quasi sequel one of the best games ever made. I don't like JRPGs so can't really recommend anything in that vein but if you want to emulate then as far as I know the SNES has a good heritage of them.
