Should Microsoft and Nintendo join?
Just tell me your answer. I think it would be BADASS to be playing games like Mario Kart but caught up with the graphics of the Xbox. So the question remains, should Microsoft and Nintendo form a pact?
*UPDATE*
Out of curiousity, post your reasoning.
That's a horrible idea. They are two different companies that please different audiences. Competition is also a very good thing for us as companies will try to surpass eachother meaning we get better stuff. It's as if you're asking "Should: McDonalds and Burger King join?; Microsoft and Apple join?; Giant Bomb and IGN join?". It's that farfetched and it wouldn't be a good thing. So, no.
No, I'd prefer it if Microsoft crawled back out of the gaming industry and just stuck to producing office program suites and mice.
yes...what did I just answer... uh?.... no...probably microtendo
I wonder how bored someone has to be to think up a question like this.
I like how OP assumes that Nintendo would need to partner up with Microsoft to create an HD console. It's not like the Wii is less powerful because Nintendo doesn't know what the fuck they're doing.
"No, I'd prefer it if Microsoft crawled back out of the gaming industry and just stuck to producing office program suites and mice. "
If you aren't a fan of Microsoft, and therefore probably don't play their games, how would them being in the industry or not affect your enjoyment of games? Or why would you care at all, unless you're just some brainless fanboy, which I will give you the benefit of a doubt for not being?
Edit: This idea is so farfetched there's no point to it. Like others have said, it's like the idea of Microsoft and Apple joining togethor. Just because they're in the same industry does not make it even remotely realistic they would somehow just merge.
Never! Unless Microsoft took over as the main company, then maybe, but my answer would still be leaning towards no.

lol
no.. just no.. as for gaming so far this gen they are going after 2 different audiences and it would be a lil hard to please both if they for w/e reason merged. The only real gaming mergers i could see would be:
Sony & MS (its very unlikely but i can see it happening)
nintendo & sega or sony & sega.
EA & _____ (i could see EA making a system with someone in the future..)
Microsoft already tried back in like, 2004 and it didn't work. There was a shareholder meeting and Hiroshi Yamauchi told Ballmer no (he's been misquited as telling Ballmer to 'suck my dick'), which effectively killed it because he's majority share holder.

Microsoft reconcidered buying them in like 2007 but decided against even starting negotiations with Nintendo and concentrate on competing with Sony. Nintendo has also said several times that they aren't for sale.

There were also rumors in 2002 of Microsoft wanting to buy SEGA. Last year there was another rumor about MS buying SEGA or at least some of the SEGA I.P.s from SEGA/Sammy.

"No, if Nintendo had wanted to make games "like Mario Kart but caught up with the graphics of the Xbox" they could have easily done so by creating a console more powerful then the Wii is today. A partnership is both highly unrealistic and pointless.
" @fuzzyponken said:Mainly selfish reasons. The 360's popularity affects my enjoyment of games by making developers focus on optimizing games for the 360 and leaving the PC with shitty portjobs. I guess you could argue that the whole PC gaming decline started with the Playstation 2 becoming so massively popular but I haven't really felt like the PC was in the backseat until this generation, and I feel the 360 and Microsoft is most at fault."No, I'd prefer it if Microsoft crawled back out of the gaming industry and just stuck to producing office program suites and mice. How would you feel if...
... some games on the 360 just straight up looked like shit and stuttered like balls for no apparent reason when it looks and runs great on PS3 and PC?
...or if a game on the 360 that you really want to play just said "Press LSHIFT to sprint" or "Press SPACE to jump" and you're sitting there, confused, going "I don't have a fucking spacebar on my controller, what the fuck are you talking about?"
...or if games on the 360 suddenly only supported SIXAXIS controllers and you're left wondering what the hell was wrong with your old controller that has basically the exact same layout of buttons and you don't really feel like buying a SIXAXIS since you don't own or want a PS3.
...or if games on the 360 made you register with and sign into Steam to verify your purchase before it let you play, when you don't use Steam for anything else.
That's what it feels like to be a PC gamer these days. Add to that reviews for multiplatform games are basically always for the 360 version, gaming press barely reports about anything other than 360 games unless they're exclusive 5 star games for the PS3. I almost missed a recent PC exclusive called Anno 1404 because I didn't hear it mentioned in any gaming press whatsoever. Fantastic game that no one talked about, but they spend hours discussing achievement points on XBL. (I'm not just talking about Giantbomb here, though they're by far the worst offenders).
I just feel like I'm being forcefed a 360 to keep up with gaming, and I don't want it.
Also, I wish Windows would stop being the leading operating system. I would like to use Linux, but then I'm stuck with id games (god bless you id) and TuxRacer.
Basically, I hate everything Microsoft does, I believe they are inferior products and I don't want to use them, but their monopoly on everything leaves me no choice. I've come to terms with that no other operating system than theirs will ever be a viable choice except for niche usage, but I never thought they'd ruin video games for me.
" If they all joined I'd have to spend less money. "Why do you say that? There would be almost the same amount of developers and publishers and therefore the same amount of games released. It could even make it worse because if by "all" you mean Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, they would have a monopoly on the video game console market and be able to price stuff at whatever they would want because there would be next to no competition.
