The 2009 "Molyneux-y" for Best "Dowg" of 2009
Torchlight dog is a solution for a problem that shouldn't even exist. Loot is only fun if it's something you might conceivably equip. Vendor trash and everything associated with it (picking up, sorting, selling) is just a pain in the ass. The dog only solves the selling part - whereas not dropping ridiculous amounts of vendor trash in the first place would solve all three.
My Mabari, Gnarls, was one of the best characters in the game, and would have stayed in my party if he had a properly developed skill tree.
The dog in Dragon Age was alright but pretty much half baked and I don't see how you would choose him over another party member. I named him Rock.
But Brad's Torchlight dog summoned skeletons... going to probably have to go with that.

I don't consider it a 'problem' at all, nor do I want it to change. Regardless I just find it awesome a dog can go sell stuff for you and come back with money!

While Torchlight's dog is the much more practical choice, I went with the Hound from Dragon Age. While I've never really used him in battle (except when I first got him) as other party member choices are better, I thought he had a TON of personality. Even when he was adventuring in your party. To me, that would be the best reason to go for that.
You don't even necessarily have "dog" in Torchlight, or Dragon Age, either. I don't think there's an option in Fable II to *not* have him.
