So Uncharted 2 won GOTY at the VGAs. I had been rooting for Batman, because it was a full-on single player game *and* a complete product.
(No DLC we're forced to buy to get the full game)
Instead, we get a game with a pointless, tacked on multi-player mode winning that is just going to add fuel to the fire and convince every other company to do the same thing.
(See Bioshock 2 and Dead Space 2 for the continuing trend - MGS 4 was bad enough but these do *not* need it)
Thanks VGAs, for signaling the death knell of the single player game.
The death of the single player game (Thanks VGAs)

I'm sorry- i don't quite understand
You are saying a game deserved to win a game of the year award- over another - becuase it DIDNT have an extra game mode?
Yes, except for the fact that Uncharted 2 was probably the best single-player game I've played this generation. And the multiplayer is anything but "tacked on."
In my opinion, of course. Plus, I wouldn't give the VGAs that much credit. They suck, and from what I can tell...everyone knows it.
" I'm sorry- i don't quite understand You are saying a game deserved to win a game of the year award- over another - becuase it DIDNT have an extra game mode? "I'm saying one deserved to win over another because more time and care was spent on the game, rather than haphazardly adding crap that didn't need to be added, thus taking time and resources away from the single player and gimping it.
I'm pretty sure i played through Uncharted 2, three times without buying any DLC, matter of fact i still haven't bought any DLC for it? so please clarify what you mean by that.
On a second note, why is Kirby taking a stream of piss in the mouth? or maybe i don't want to know... forget i asked.
" @OmegaPirate said:You mean the part where a separate team worked on the multi player portion and that the single player development remained unaffected? No - no you are right you could totally tell the single player campaign in uncharted 2 was gimped, i mean seriously WTF, even modern warfare 2 and brutal legend had better single player campaigns, if only there was no multi player mode, maybe the campaign mode would've been so much awesome" I'm sorry- i don't quite understand You are saying a game deserved to win a game of the year award- over another - becuase it DIDNT have an extra game mode? Also this, why complain about an award show when the winners were chosen by users and this show not really an award show?
This is not the IAAs or at the least the BAFTAs.
" @Ineedaname said:Alot of people on here would disagree." @Lard: So you're saying the uncharted 2 single player was gimped then? "Yes. Because of the time and resources taken away from it to do the multiplayer. "
And you have no idea how they distribute their resources.
" Blame the voters. "I'd say no, in this case, since if the voters had their way, Modern Warfare 2 probably would have won.
" I heard the multiplayer was actually good in Uncharted 2. "Lol. The multiplayer is phenomenal. This kid doesn't know what he's talking about, at all.
" @JJOR64 said:" I heard the multiplayer was actually good in Uncharted 2. "You heard incorrectly. "
OK, just a troll, move along people.
"A better, longer, more well crafted single player *always* wins out over multi-player, in every situation.its more then just having multiplayer.. its having GREAT multiplayer that makes a game better and uncharted has maybe the best multiplayer this year out side of MW2
"
and awesome single player and awesome multiplayer will always win out over just awesome single player.
Well I didn't vote but I believe it was user based." @ThePhantomnaut said:

And where does the loss of time and resources in Uncharted 2's Single Player show itself? What in Uncharted 2's Single Player doesn't feel like it's been completed? You even said the multiplayer mode was tacked-on, so they couldn't have spend much time on it, could they?" @Ineedaname said:
Yes. Because of the time and resources taken away from it to do the multiplayer. "" @Lard: So you're saying the uncharted 2 single player was gimped then? "
Stop trolling. Multiplayer modes are an inevitability, and Single Player will always exist.
2 questions then
1) Does this by proxy mean the challenge rooms in Batman detracted from the single player campaign
and
2) Whats your opinion of fallout 3? That 60+ hour single player detailed rpg
With allllllllllllllllllllllllll that lovely dlc

"Stop trolling. Multiplayer modes are an inevitability, and Singleplayer will always exist. "A) I am not trolling
B) That's exactly the problem - the inevitability of MP where it doesn't need to be.
C) Single player is going to start existing at the expense of the MP, and that's the problem.

so we both agree Uncharted 2 is better then batman???

Lets close up and move on

It automatically shows itself as soon as they started working on MP. Anyone can see they could have made a better, longer SP mode, but instead they gimped it for pointless MP.

"The single player of Uncharted 2 has great voice acting, stellar visuals, and no loading times. The multiplayer has a leveling system, along with many different modes of play. Right. We all better start hating on games with multiplayer so other games stop getting multiplayer.
UC2 has a fucking incredible single-player. That's why it won.

" I don't have a PS3 so obviously I didn't play Uncharted 2, but from the reviews I've read the single player in Uncharted 2 is better than Batman: Arkham Asylum. "Batman is better because it's a more focused, finished, ungimped product. "
I see how you come to gimped and unfocused (it's still wrong, but I can see how you get there), but unfinished? What?
ALERT
ANY GAME WITH MULTIPLAYER IS GIMPED AND UNFOCUSED! REMEMBER THAT!
Tacked on??? The multiplayer for uncharted 2 is amazingly addictive. And the single player easily trumped its predeccesor even with its added multiplayer. Its just an overall fantastic acheivment for games with its sheer quality of everything, nothing felt tacked on and was all looking like it was at the best it could be.
