Losing my arms or going blind.
What would it take for you to stop playing games?
Not much. If I take this month into consideration, I beat three games, and then spent the remaining time either trying to work on projects, learning to cook, and finish a book. Gaming is what I do, not who I am.
If I had to start paying full price for them. And if the Wii and its follow on gets a non-optional achievement system.
" I love games and have been playing them all my life. I think I'll be playing games for the rest of my life but thinking about it in depth there are a couple things that would make me stop playing games or severely lessen my enjoyment of playing and collecting video games: - If the next generation of consoles doesn't have backwards compatibility, trophy/achievement carry over, or downloadable games transfer I can see myself becoming less and less interested in gaming as that trend would probably continue. - If gaming became ridiculously more expensive than it already is, say $100 for a new game. - Faulty hardware from all fronts, I don't want to get a device that will break in 1-2 years. What about you guys? Any reasons you would leave gaming behind? "A baby.
I would stop gaming if games stop being fun, because that's why I play games. Or when I physically can't play games anymore, that would be a sad time for me.
Death would stop me from playing games, but other then that I don't think there is much. If I'd go blind I could switch to text adventures and if I'd lose all my arms I'd use an eyetracker or joystick and play some point&click adventures.
Disabilities aside, DRM is really the main issue right now that makes me avoid games. So far I haven't bought a single game on Wii, PSN, Steam or XboxLive and I'd prefer to avoid that for the future. Maybe one day they will figure out a DRM scheme that isn't full of lock-in and potential of losing all your games, but till they at least managed to transfer all those download titles from the current generation to the next, I don't plan to sink any serious amount of money into that stuff.
I am also kind of in a "So what?" mood as far as mainstream commercial games are concerned, but that only really holds till a really good game comes along and so far that still happens frequently enough to not throw away my game consoles.
" @kingzetta said:Because DRM takes control away from you. You can no longer lend it to a friend, you can no longer sell it or buy it used for cheap and are basically limited to exactly those things that the provider allows you to do. The reason for that however is the DRM, not the digital download itself. There are plenty of indie titles that come out completely DRM free for the PC and I don't really see an issue with those. Yes, its kind of nice to have a DVD with a properly printed cover, but given that its nothing more then a cover and a useless manual these days, its not exactly a big loss to go all digital.Just curious why this matters? As for me, I think a zombie apocalypse would be fairly compelling reason. "" If they only came out digitally "
At least 50 Million Dollars or 5 rare supercars and a racing license to feel the real need for speed on private test tracks.
Haven't gamed in a month. I really like it but some things are more important.
I probably could give up easily.
At the very least I wouldn't stop discussing them, the reality of what games have the potential of becoming is fucking incredible.
If I lost the financial freedom to spend my little extra cash on games, or if I lost my eyesight. I complain that I don't have enough money to buy all the extra games I want but then have to take a step back and realize that others out there cannot even afford food while i am complaining about a piece of interactive entertainment. So yeah.... if I was in financial trouble I would stop playing games.
I'm never going to stop. Whenever I have some free time and I don't have anything going on, sitting down on the couch (or PC chair) firing up a game and playing hard until 3am will always be something I'm up for.
Getting older, it just seems like lack of time is the biggest enemy here, but I'll still make time for my video games.
Not a lot, I already get distracted so easily, I feel bad leaving the console running for like a half hour while I'm away doing something else.
I don't think I can ever really quick gaming. It's too much of my life and with a girlfriend that plays just as many games, there isn't much reason to stop. If we had a baby and my family needed attention I'd adjust the amount of gaming I did but I don't think I can ever stop.
Games I'm interested in stop coming out, which is starting to happen - haven't been interested in a new game since Red Dead Redemption. Have played since then (FIFA games and ME2 re-re-play through) but apart from that my interested in playing games is dying. Hope '11 can rescue it!
Power outage.
Seriously, though even if I wasn't able to play video games I'd still play games of all shapes and sizes.
I stopped playing games seriously for about 3 months last summer, I just burned out and had more fun playing music and spending time on the internet. I dipped in every few weeks to see if I wanted to play anything but it didn't take me long to get bored of anything. The last few months I've got back into gaming, because I've got into Steam. Now my PC is bricked so I'm just playing music and spending time on the internet again.
Video games aren't my primary source of entertainment, I get by just fine without them for long periods of time. Not much is required for me to get bored of them.
