What You Think Is The Most Biggest Scams In The Gaming Industry?

Skin packs, DLC that's barely a hour long or pre order bonus nonsense.
I agree alot of that stuff is a complete rip-off.
PlayStation move I feel like is worthless. It didn't have alot of games for it, and it felt like a quick cash grab.

"Free To Play" games. They're a plague that needs to be wiped out.
I can't call something that's free a rip-off I know your joking.
Double dipping; micro-transactions are fine if the game is free, but charging a base price and then charging again for in-game items doesn't seem right to me.
Also *-most.
Purposefully half-assing a game just so they can sell the rest as DLC.
Also online passes are really stupid & greedy.
@TaliciaDragonsong: Oh come on! You're saying you don't want this...
You can get that and 21 more for only 3600 MS points. Bargain! :P
Back in my time...ramble ramble.

I would assume that it's obvious he's talking about games like League of Legends, F2P MMOs, and everything else that people have to spend money on to not be at a disadvantage.

Yeah, alot of the DLC in general could have been unlockables for games. It could increase some games replay value.

I almost forgot about that on free to play games. Where you have to pay for items.

In the end though who cares? Worth is self measured. To some people that might be worth it.
...You totally bought that weapon skin pack didn't you.
Online passes. I buy my games new all the time so you wouldn't think I would have a problem with it but I hate putting in those codes all the time and I hate it when they leave out the code like Uncharted 3 so I couldn't play the mp at all even though I bought it new.
Paid games that market themselves like 'free-to-play' games are pretty damn bad (see: Gotham City Imposters, Mass Effect 3's multiplayer).
Honestly though? I think the annualization of specific games is a bit egregious - but that might be the 'artist' in me whining about stagnant design choices and the preference of quantity over quality that exists in the industry. It's not that I have anything against the studios and their work, but that I'd like to see what else they can do. It's why I'm sort of broken up about the way Saints Row might be going. I love Volition quite a bit, and I want to see what else they can do.

I agree that operation raccoon city DLC was complete bullshit. I felt like I paid for half of a game.

No. I have however bought aesthetic stuff before. Can't think of a recent great recent example. I'm not opposed to buying skin/costume packs If its a game I'm really into. My only issue is they usually release them so late in the game's life cycle that im through playing the damn game.
All the little flimsy DLC bits of odd weapons/character skins, I don't mind if they just do one big pack that has all that plus maps but when I see them all on sale separately I just feel mentally ill to the idea. I'd prefer that many games just used an in-game currency/experience instead similar to how the weapons unlocked in Battlefield3 or tie the unlocks to in-game challenges or the actual trophy/achievements instead of all kinds of little microtransactions.

@Demoskinos: I care, there's an awful shortage of skins and decals to unlock in Gears 3 and I really felt cheated seeing those 20-30+ locked ones staring at me.
With Gears 3, most of those skins are at least locked within map DLC. So they at least function as a neat bonus, and given how most fans of the MP are going to get the map packs anyway, in the end most are going to end up with the full roster.
It's still kinda yukky, though. There's an awful lot of character skin assets that are clearly in the game, like Bernie for example, but were withheld for DLC. With that said, I find Gears 3 is a little more forgiveable. Especially since there's so many character skins to begin with anywhoo.
However, that weapon skin pack is still ludicrous.
@Yummylee: Ha, I see why you'd say that but no. EDIT: Whoops you were replying to someone else. Sorry mate.
I enjoyed the MP in Gears 3 but didn't see any of the DLC to be worth my money and then I quit once they put dedicated servers behind a DLC wall.
*Grabs copy of game off shelf and reads back cover.*
"Challenge your friends on fast and fair dedicated multiplayer servers"
Hmm, funny 'cos when I jumped online one day (having not bought the latest map pack) I fell into a disgusting pit of lag, only getting smooth games when on the hosts team. Did a little research and found out that anyone without that specific map pack couldn't play on dedicated servers, the option was blocked in the menu.
They may have reverted it back but I didn't give them that chance personally, quit that game in an instant. Lying cunts.
... and that @falserelic is the biggest scam I've seen.

I don't like online passes either, but I wouldn't call them stupid or greedy. Its a way for companies to make money off of used games. Sure, its a pain to enter the code but if it helps companies to be able to make more games, then I'll put up with entering a code.

Gamestop is another one I don't like the way they do business.
Thats fine, I don't like how they push stuff on their customers either, but how is Gamestop a scam?
Some DLC just feels like a total rip off. A lot of the time it feels like something that would've just been included with the game in the last generation. If they expect me to believe that they only make DLC in the time it takes for cert, then they think I'm an idiot. They're cutting content out of the game so that they can get more money for it. Not that all DLC is like this, just some.

Well they buy your games for like $3.00 (Okay, $3.50 if you're lucky) and then turn around and sell them for $30 - $40...

Too much. But damn it all I was on a mission! A mission to pick at and prod at the varying layers of awfulness, and oh God the layers... The Layers!

This reminds me of another one, whenever a game shows me the DLC that I cannot unlock without paying for. It feels like I paid 60 dollars for an advertisement whenever that happens.
This is a bit of a stretch considering it's not technically a scam in and of itself, but my pick is for all the cg trailers and shit we've seen over the years. Don't get me wrong, I love all those crazy cg trailers...but c'mon
How the fuck does this
represent this?
SWTOR is by no means the only game to do this, but still. Wouldn't this be false advertising for almost anything else?

You trade in games and not get much out of it. I had a few people wouldn't let me buy a new game, unless I had pre-ordered something. I've bought games that didn't work tried to get my money back, but gamestop wouldn't let me.
I just don't understand why do you need to spend money on free to play games ... ME3 Multiplayer really? that isn't even competitve why do you want to spend real money when you can PLAY 2 silver matches and get enough money to buy what you want, self control? that might help when playing those games oh and also knowing the trade time/money and how it works so you can play the game all you want without spending a dime , I did that with LoL and had a blast ; was forced by friends to buy certain hero and I just said "N,o I'm saving in game money for it I have patience" and continued playing without ever feeling like I needed to pay for anything , unless someone can prove to me that a certain game puts you in a major disadvantage against other players (if it's a competitive game) or give you a better experience because you're spending less time playing and more time buying stuff then I will belive the FTP model is bad but so far I haven't see that.

Couldn't even play more than what, 4 missions? And that was in co-op with you. I couldn't even have imagined playing that game all the way through, especially in single player.
And I looked up the ending and HOLY SHIT that was horrible. They make a whole deal about being able to kill Leon, and that ending is sooooooo fucking horrible! RE ORC was such a huge disappointment (though, I kinda expected it to be).

The ending was so pathetic and lazy. Everything happen so sudden at the end, and I never understood why Leon was stronger then Mr.X and Nemesis.
