I dont know WHO has it, but I recently returned a second to Gamespot, only to see that in this past 2 months the general IQ level has gone down a few numbers, again. I mean, I saw a guy, with almost 2000 post claiming he had proof because a friend of him worked on a developing company, another saying that Crysis had to be judged graphically but lowering its specs to Console like specs, another dude was saying that both N64 and XBOX were better than PS1 and PS2. And more similar stuff. I havent explored many other forums, and Ive seen a couple of bad members here alas, I guess nowhere is safe this days. But to be honest, Ive found the best communities in sites that offer illegal software. For some reason, the community in such places is less biased.

A giant penis beating children with a pube? That's harsh, dood. I don't think my views on X-mas are very clear to most of you. I believe in the "giving" part, but most people see "giving" as "getting"...as all I ever see are lists from people saying "I want..." or "Get me...". That's not how I roll. For the past eight years, I haven't gotten anyone that I know a single present. Instead, I've bought presents and donated to Toys for Tots each year. Last year, I donated 14 presents, and this year, I'm aiming for 30. I try to increase the amount every year. I grew up in a household that wasn't always able to afford Christmas, and so I know the feeling of not getting Christmas...but man, there's a shitload of folks out there that know that feeling EVERY year...and that sucks shit.
As for the Santa hat thing...Santa represents the overcommercialization more than it does the Christmas spirit anymore. Most people don't even realize that Santa Claus was more of a Pagan belief than anything to do with the birth of Christ. Therefore, I refuse to buy into any form of convoluted nonsense just because people think "it's fun".
So...that's that. If that makes me a Scrooge, then I'm fine with that.
On the topic of Silverchair, I liked all their albums up until Young Modern. That was a COMPLETE deviation for them. However, Diorama is a beautiful album. Still, nothing can beat the blatant rip-off chords of Frogstomp over the originality infused to Diorama, could it? Gotta love whenever "Leave Me Out" kicks in, and it's the same exact riff as "Sweet Leaf" by Sabbath...

In all seriousness, I love the variety and depth of knowledge found at the SomethingAwful Games Forum. Bonus points of having incredibly high standards for opening posts and strong, quality moderation.
Some other sites I check on a routine basis:
HG101 is a goldmine for information. A lot of the articles on the main HG101 site are written by the forum goers there and they never cease to amaze me. It's even more impressive when you take into account just how small the community is over there.
DigitalPress is just a wonderful gateway into the world of collecting. If you've ever wondered, "hey, is such and such rare?", you can undoubtably find your answer at DP, either in the forums or through the online rarity guide.
AssemblerGames is pretty badass if you want to find people knowledgeable about really, really obscure stuff. If you've ever wanted to find out more about unreleased hardware or dev kits, you'll find what you're looking for in those forums.
I know NeoGAF gets lots of love, but I never really could stand the community there. Just a bit too different from what I'm used to, I guess. GameFAQs is pretty spotty. Some subforums are pretty interesting, others are loaded down with idiots, and others are just dead until they get "claimed" or hijacked. For more specific sites, NintendoAGE, AtariAGE and Sega-16 are godsends for their respective categories.
Bookmark a few and check in on there from time to time. Maybe do a search for a topic that you'd like to know more about. I'm sure you could cull some information from searching those forums (and associated sites) that could be used to better articles (or hell, even discussions) here.

I feel with you on that, I do. I didn't give my dude a hat, he just came back with it and the cane and the raging drunkedness. I remember last Christmas season, I helped out at a nearby homeless shelter, and it was really fulfilling. I didn't get to go this year, though. Couldn't get a ride. Also, I gots no monies for gifts. I do what I can.
Most of the time anyone who sounds obnoxious is just venting to justify their purchase you know? Like, I'm sure most people are perfectly normal and decided that because they bought one console, that's the console they have to defend for themselves. Those are the worst anyway. So they come across weird. This site is pretty much filled with knowledgeable gamers. Pretty much....
I think the best forum communities are for specific games. They're passionate and reasonable.
