For most people who know me or read my last post, you are most likely going to guess that my answer is "Counter-Strike 1.6". Without a doubt, Counter-Strike 1.6 is my favorite FPS of all time. I love it for it's recoil system: every gun has their specific recoil pattern and little quirk, how you control your avatar greatly affects it too. Not to mention the thinking and skill required when playing in a round of pub or match. But no, Counter-Strike 1.6 is not what i have in mind.
Which multiplayer FPS requires the most skill?
Portal 2 is not a FPS. Its also not multiplayer. Its more Co op.
Just saw your post. This is just a plug for your own site.
Quake 3 and QuakeLIVE are nearly identical. Also the most skill intensive game on the list. Followed by TFC and Counter-Strike. As someone that played CS competitively for years at high levels of play, it is not nearly as intuitive compared to Q3 or TFC.

Yes i apologize, i didn't put much thought in creating this poll.as someone will undoubtedly point out in a more dick-ish way, gears of war isnt an fps, its third person.
And unfortunately i can't edit it.. let it be my embarrassment and proof of my stupidity.
**********************************************************************************************************************************************************
So, if anyone who have the power to edit the poll.. please remove Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 on my behalf. Thanks in advance!

I have to mention UT 2004, Quake, then CS.
I vote this game because the characters have a speed and mobility that you only see in fighters like Street Fighter. Imagine launching a slow moving ball of of death towards your oponent (second mouse button), wall jump out of the way, double jump to change your trajection, then snipe the ball of plasma with the primary fire. There are just layers and layers of mechanics implemented with this game to the point where it was overkill for most people.
Quake. Well, it's quake. Play it and you will know what I mean. This is still the fastest FPS out there fifteen years after it's launch.
In my opinion, the only way CS could even be in the same league as UT 04 and Quake when it comes to skill is that CS is more popular, so there is more competition to be the best. Though that competition makes me say that CS would be my number three choice, even though it really is just slo-motion target practice for kindergartners.
Why is ARMA not listed?
Die in 1 shot, realistic movement speeds and maps
Also as a stellar oposite a game that gives you a high mobility and alot of chances to recover health like the Halo series. a skilled player can be virtually untouchable
C.S. 1.3 Bunny hopping and noscope awp ftw.
EDIT: Also Team Fortress Classic for conc nades and conc maps.
Games that have the most parameters requires the "greatest skill" because it requires skill in more parameters. So it would have to be one of the COD or BF games.
Yup, I know the argument of "most skill" backfired right there, but trust me when I say that it was and has always been a stupid "argument" in the first place.
I don't think Quake Live and Quake 3 should be separate entries. They are the same game, really. Quake 1 should be in here. And this poll is seriously lacking in Unreal, no one liked Unreal 3... Also, Tribes? And WTF is Portal 2 doing in here, it's a puzzle game... Gears of War aren't FPSs but I'll let that one slide.
Requires the most skill? I don't think it takes much skill to run around an environment and fire a rocket launcher at peoples' feet - therefore about 80% of those should be removed. In fact the only game that really *REQUIRES* skill to play here is Portal 2 because you're not going to get very far when you don't know what you're doing.
Easy - http://www.giantbomb.com/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-rogue-spear/61-8728/
Just the fact that you could - with skill - dominate with just a heartbeat sensor and en pistol, makes this game the hardest game to master I've ever played.

There is a reason why all modern FPS games have been slowed down significantly when compared to Quake 3.
I don't know. I've played all of those games except Unreal Tournament and Quake and I would probably say Halo takes the most skill. It's the only one that I'm extremely bad at so I'm assuming it takes some sort of skill that I lack. Or maybe Bad Company 2. It think it takes a decent amount of skill, unless you're playing as a medic of course.
Also why did 14% of people pick TF2? That's hilarious.
Quake 3/Live and CS are the only acceptable answers. Everyone else is trolling, no matter how much they insist otherwise.

I rate CS above UT and Quake 3 due to the nature of the skill required, but I can definitely see the argument the other way.
As someone who played CS and UT at a reasonably high level, I think CS requires greater skill due to being based entirely around individual skill (aim) and twitch reflexes, with an additional emphasis on teamwork and tactics.
UT and Quake 3 have, perhaps, a broader range of skills to develop, but none of those skills are as 'pure' (for want of a better term).
honestly, I think the question is kinda stupid. "the most skill"? you can't measure that. each of those games requires certain skills. some of them more varied skills, many of them very different ones. But you can't say "game X requires 4.7 times more skill than games Y and Z, etc"According to this, it is stupid to compare a lot of things then.
Sure I can't say "game X requires 4.7 times more skill than games Y and Z", so what?
Although it is not the most effective way, by the process of elimination.. you can arrive at an answer.
@DeF said:I mostly take issue with the phrasing of the question. I'm not a fan of statements like this. Sure you can argue which of these games requires the highest amount of different skills or which of these just asks its players to be really skilled at moving their crosshair to the enemy's heads but "which requires the most skill" sounds weird to me.honestly, I think the question is kinda stupid. If that makes any sense at all.
I wanted to read the blog post, but alas, it's linked to another site. If what you had to say was so important, you would have posted it here. Trying to get more traffic to your site from Giant Bomb is kinda low, dude.
Also, Counter-Strike, in either of its flavors. But really, you can't measure how much "skill" is required for a game. I'm pretty decent at Counter-Strike, yet I get my ass handed every time I try to play Modern Warfare 2 online, and I think most people would agree that the former is much more complex than the latter.
@DeF: While I agree with you in the way the question relates to the intention of this poll, it could make sense if you were to observe the audience of the games. For example, you could say there's a higher barrier to entry for CounterStrike 1.6 compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops, so the former would require more skill to be at a competitive level... If that makes any sense at all.it actually does :)
in that way, I agree.
