Why dosen't the Giant Bomb community use real profile pictures?

I usually do use a picture of myself, but right now I have a bullshit QR code on my profile. Wait a minute, I could switch that out for the one I use as a user icon... which isn't exactly how I look at the moment, as I am actually only 25 years old.

I don't see the point of using a real picture on anonymous message boards. 

I used my face as my avatar during Christmas and it's the profile picture you see if you click on my profile. Plus I'm all up in here:

Who I am is not important. I expect to see photos of people on the Facebook and the Google+, but not on a video game website. Photos are a distraction from the site's real purpose. I'm not here to reunite with people I've been ignoring since middle school, I'm here to talk about vidgames.

Because this is a forum on the internet. You're observation doesn't only apply here, you know. Unless you've been going to some real tame forums with strict rules.

I guarantee you that this picture of Rita Mordio (or any picture of a fictional character I could choose) looks much, much better than any real picture of me. It's for your own good.

I want to keep as little of me on the internet as possible. So i never post pictures of me or any family or friends. Also why i'm not on Facebook.

I don't always post pictures of myself on the internet, but when I do I prefer them nude.

I simply couldn't care less, that's my reason.

My username wouldn't make nearly as much sense if it were a picture of me.

My profile pic (not avatar) basically IS me. I'm not saying the character was based on me or anything like that, but the way he looks and behaves in the show (Downtown) is real damn relatable, so that's how I skirt that.

It's safer and more fun. Plus I think it's more expressive.

Yeah, because I don't want to see a picture of myself every time I fucking post. Two or three times a day in mirrors is more than plenty thanks.

Yeah your default picture is very expressive. It really speaks to me!

I use my silhouette because I think it looks good. It's not my ugly mug but it's definitely unique. I don't mind people not using their actual face. The only thing that bugs me is when their profile pick isn't picture of a person or animal or character of some sort but a random picture like a skyline or scenery or design pattern.

Haha, I forgot to mention how lazy I am to avatar pics.

I use my real photo, but I didn't put much thought into it. My job started attaching photos to internal emails, which still feels odd to me.
