This may be a touchy subject for gamers out there in internet land. Mainly because people who get so attached to things i.e. games never want it to end. Many shy away from answering the question "are games pointless?". So I was just wondering, with all this new casual gamer stuff do you think you will still be playing games in 30 years time? or will you look back on it as a silly fad or phase you went through.
Will you always play games?
I think I will be playing games for more years to come, but I think there will be a time when I just stop playing them so frequent. Considering I was born in an age of when games weren't as popular (as today), my generation is still quite young, and will still be playing years to come. Hell, I'm only 15, and by the time I roll into a college, there is a good chance that the next-generation will be here, and the discussion of the generation afterward will begin.
Kind of was off-topic, but I think I will be playing games extensively until I hit college, where I will drop down a bit, but will continue to play.
It's nice too see you guys with future gaming intentions but to answer my own question, I don't see myself playing games in thirty years time. I wouldn't want to, I mean video games are fun and all but I couldn't devote as much time as I do now to video games, as an adult. Videos games seem to take over my life and I hope to move on eventually.

I'm doing pretty good eh? ^_^

"I'm 43 and I played pong in the 70s and I'm still playing video games. There has been an ebb and flow to my gaming habits through the years and I don't see myself quiting anytime soon."You are the man , a real man
"Kush said:+2 yeah I think games will be part of my life as much as bein an A/V geek and movies are"Solid_SnakeXx said:That's a +1 bro""Nah this is my last gen. I ll be studing more "This may be the greatest news I've heard all week. I hope this is you last-gen for posting of forums too!"
With the way video games are progressing, i'm not sure if i'll really care about them much longer. I'll still play, just it won't be as regular as now. Not to mention that if you look years and years into the future, stuff like arthritis and other ailments that come with old age are going to ruin any game you try to play that needs reactions faster than Phoenix Wright.
"I've been playing games since i was 3. At this point its definitely beyond a fad."
Me, too. That's over 16 years for me. My parents still play games, and have been doing so since the arcade years. I don't see myself getting bored any time soon.
Many shy away from answering the question "are games pointless?".
I'll answer by saying that is a stupid fucking question. Among other things, games are entertainment. Everyone needs a little entertainment. It's no more pointless than watching a good movie or reading a good book.
I'll keep playing games until I get old or until games years from now really suck. Then I'll go back to my old games. I probably won't play them as frequently but I'll keep playing them.
I can't tell you if I will always play games, you never know what happens. But I know I will be playing games until I either (a) no longer enjoy them or (b) must stop playing because of necessity.
"I've been playing games since i was 3. At this point its definitely beyond a fad."Same here i cant remember a time when I wasnt into gaming so ill be spending money on games for many years to come
It's hard to answer this question because you don't know what games will be like in 30 years. During the NES generation, no adult would ever think of picking up a controller and playing Super Mario Bros. Video games were a child's game. Plain and simple. But now, look how things are today. Tons of adults play video games. An even better example is the Wii. Hell, even senior citizens can play Wii Sports. So, who knows. In 30 years time, everyone in the world might be playing video games.
I, for one, will probably die with a controller in my hand. My girlfriend and I are, and have been big gamers since we were little. I think it's a great family thing and I know we'll continue to play them for the foreseeable future.
i often ask myself this question. i have been gaming for 20 years and every year i wonder will my passion for the medium fade one day. i always assumed that as i got older i would lose interest in them but there is no sign of that happening. i dont like to think of what my life would be like if i was not playing games, simply because they have been a big part of me for as long as i can remember
i hope im still holding a joypad when im 40
"I actually can see myself stopping. Not because I hate video games, but because at some point I might just give up on them and focus on a career or art or something."Bad move, giving up your hobbies for a career will make you miserable and old. Just because you have a career, heck even family, doesn't mean you give up doing what you love. Not all of us get old and stodgy as we age
Uhh... at least to a limited extent, yes. I wanna be a game designer, so I imagine I'll still be playing them for most of my life, but as I get older it will no doubt be less than it is now.
Games are a part of life now, for me especially. They allow me to chill out and I get to experience things, see, hear or even kill things I'll never probably get to do in real life.
Gaming is also a much more accepted pasttime then it use to be aswell, I'm sure when I have kids one day I'll slow down my gaming and might totally miss out on what's going on. But once he's a little older I'll be playing some kid friendly games with him!/her!
But that's the future, and the future scares me. So not thinking to much about that just now, I can see myself playing games all of my life though, simply because it's a medium that continues to amaze me and I fall more in love with it every year.
