clearly this isn't japan and adults do not watch anime or build gundam models but does that effect the anime it self? clearly some people think that anime is the same as spongebob squarepants( not that its bad or anything) and are suited for preschoolers but some others say that anime could be very serious and could include adult matters and political thoughts within. What do you think?

I'm not into Anime, but I do still read the Manga versions of some of them, personally I don't really care about the way a story is told (novel, comic book, movie, ect.) as long as the story itself is good. And I have to say manga are some of the best damn books I've ever read, especially 20th Century Boys.
There are different animes for different demographics and age groups. There are animes targeted at younger age and there are some towards all ages, so some adults watches them as well, like comic books, video games, and other medias. Any other answers would just be generalizing.
I'm not much a fan of anime, but would never condemn the whole lot of it as childish.
Mainly because of Serial Experiments Lain and my favorite anime, Kino's Journey neither which are childish. The latter also not resorting to any kind of extreme content to come off as mature.
Labeling anime as childish on a video game site is the height of hypocrisy. Everyone is entitled to their own likes and dislikes. Don't discredit something just because it doesn't appeal to you.

I like how anime is supposed to be for kids (or jerks) but the ones insulting us anime watcher are actually the ones watching stuff like Teletubbies.
But yeah, totally. Elfen Lied, Bible Black, Hellsing, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell and obviously Grave of the Fireflies are the most childs ones I've watched.
That one show however, is the only exception. I wouldn't call all others childish, but hell, they just make me feel plain embarrased to be caught watching.
Its horrible, worst of all is the voice acting. Why does it have to be so terrible? Anyone under 18 sounds like they are 6 years old. Maybe if they had professional voice actors do the dubbing, it might be tolerable. But as of now, its for Pedophiles. "Hey kids, get into my van, I gots me some animes!"

Childish and dumb. Not childish in that five year olds watch it, but childish in that the writing is on the level of a fifteen year old boys private collection of perverted fan-fiction. And the copious amounts of gore only makes it even more childish.

Have you seen any anime made since the 90s? There are a ton of professional voice actors. And as for if it's childish or not, no it's not stuff like Ghost In the Shell, The Dreaming, and others are quite the opposite.

Been ages since I bothered to watch anime last time, I think it was Death Note until I got really bored of it before finishing the series.
The couple I liked years ago were Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Elfen Lied didn't seem to be too bad either but I never bothered to watch it much.
neon genesis, widely considered one of the best animes of all time, if not THE best, is definitely not childish. i watched some episodes back again the other day having not watched for about a year and its fair to say that a lot of what they talk about goes to deeper levels than a child would understand, let alone a teenager. very dark psychological moments.
