I'm for it, but I'm also bi so I'm a bit biased
Are you guy for or against same-sex marriage?
Against it. It that was the way it was meant to be, then a man and a man or a woman and a woman would be able to have children... the conventional way. That's just my logic. By all means disagree with me.

Again that refers only to sexuality, not love.
And even within sexuality, if people only did it the way they were 'supposed to', you would want to illegalise any form of sex other than the baby-making kind.
I personally don't see any problem with it, after all why shouldn't they have that right? the only thing stoping them is the church. It's not like they are harming anyone so I'd say I'm for it.
What that should say is that the only people that still care, are such small groups of vocal people. so i believe it is unselfish not to care.
I'm Canadian and they can marry here. So basically the only time you hear about it is when right-wing cowboys complain.

"Commando said:I don't like it, but I'm not gonna like murder anyone for it. I guess they can "be together" if they want to, even if I think it's gross and unnatural."I'm pretty religious. I don't think it should be "marriage", but it should be a legal equivalent of "marriage"."
as long as you dont have a problem with them being together"
ok before i say anything please understand that i DO NOt hAT GAYS. i just find the idea a little wierd. i do not hat the people who are gay i just hate the idea of it. ok so i dont mind people are gay i just dont like the fact of how they were born. mind u i am no gay basher i respect everyone and think that all humans except for terrorist and criminals deserve to have normal lives.
I don't hate gays either, and I am ok with homosexual relationships and stuff, but MARRIAGE? I just can't come to terms with that idea. It just seems wrong.
We can't have gay marriage 'cause marriage is sacred, it happens in the church. Marriage is sacred, it's sacred. No, it's not, not in America, not in a country that watches Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire? and The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and Who Wants to Marry a Midget. Get the fuck outta here. Shit, Michael Jackson got married, how fucking sacred is that shit?

So true, if two dudes wanna get married who am I to say they can't?
"SolemnOaf said:Yes, but it was part of religious ceremony. Hence the ring symbolizing the ring of Saturn, marriage (as we know it) was initally a ceremony that was celebrated by worshippers of Saturnalia."Rex said:Marriage has been around since Ancient Greek and Roman times."Considering marriage pre-existed religion, I find it ridiculous how religion can dictate this practice based on someone's sexual orientation. If religion is completely taken out of the equation though, I can see no reason why anyone would be against same-sex marriage. I'm not against it, that's for sure.
"
I demand proof of this pre-existance.
"
Your link, Rex, seems to be skewed in a way to credit christianity with tying together marriage as a religious ceremony, and that's just not accurate. You'd be suprised how much of the religion of Saturnalia still exists to this day; black robes worn by judges and graduates were a vestment of the followers of Saturn, for instance. Most of Christianity, as a matter of fact, is hobbled together from pre-existing religions and astronomical occurances, which, back in ancient times, were virtually inseperable.
"The main gripe is that people seem to view marriage as something inherently religious. I thought that wasnt the case."Marriage at its roots is a religious institution, yes. But either we secularize it and make it available to everyone or do away with it completely. Otherwise all it really is is a vehicle fraught with religious hypocrisy and elitism.
I am completely against it. Homosexuality is sinful, immoral, and unnatural, and is condemned in the Bible.
"the government should get out of marriage all togetherYES!
"
Also, the discussion is about the LEGALITY of gay marriage, the CIVIL UNION. If your church, cult, sunday group, whatever it is, doesn't want to allow it they have their right, but they cannot interfere with the Civil Union. There is a HUGE difference and it stems from a VERY IMPORTANT thing: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. That's what guarantees everyone's religious freedom (to be a part of/create any religion or just stay out of any kind of religious group).
