The campaign I liked most was Halo 1 and GTA 4 because halo was more of a story and GTA 4 is all over and is very well scripted
Best Campagin in a game
Mass Effect 2.
Call of Duty 2.
Call of HUAREZ:Bound In Blood.
Medal Of Honor:Allied Assault.
Halo 3.
DMC4.
There are a lot more out there. But this is what comes to mind.
When you say campaign, does that mean it has to be a game with a multiplayer component? If so, I'd probably go with CoD 4 or Mechwarrior 4. Wait... Freespace 2 had multi, didn't it? If it did, then that's my answer.
And HL2. At least the first half, when I had no idea what was going on (in the awesome sort of way). It got just a tad repetitive towards the end, but not enough to matter.

That H was a reference. It was intentional.Try and guess it.
Who's australian and goes HUAREZ in his review?
" @MarkWahlberg said:My love for Snides is based almost entirely on his professed love of that game (along with, y'know, his being awesome in general). " @MarkWahlberg: you heard mechwarrior 4 is freeware now right on somewebsite called mektek.net or something. "I know!! But I'm using a macbook and it doesn't work on it... I'm sad. I still own a copy somewhere, though. All is not lost!
I guess I never really noticed it. That is how it's pronounced though, right?
" @MarkWahlberg: your not one of those windows booter macs? "Not at the moment. That might change in the coming weeks...
I don't like the word campaign. I assume you mean single-player experience.
If that's the case, idk, Ocarina of Time was epic.
Chrono Trigger, Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 3 (or 6, if you're Japanese), Metal Gear Solid 1, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Bioshock
Those are probably my favorites.
For me Ocarina of Time, no other game made has come so close to perfection in my opinion. But then again there are a lot of games i haven't played, inculding the original Zelda games.
Leather Goddesses of Phobos (an Infocom text adventure!)
No One Lives Forever (PC)
System Shock 2 (PC)
Beyond Good & Evil (Xbox)
Uncharted Drakes Fortune (PS3)
Bioshock (360)
A few are on my favorite games list, but other aren't however, I do recall playing them and always wanting to know what happens next. The plots had me thinking about the games story while at work eager to get back to them. None are RPGs which is my favorite genre, but I usually am also thinking about derailing (going off on some side quest) when it comes to RPGs. Leveling, tuning my character, etc are of equal importance to the story to me in RPGs, while in shooters and action games, I just roll with the flow.
Half Life 2, and it's episodes, for sure. That game is amazing.
Halo 1 was also amazing first time through. Especially the first time through seeing the flood. That was great.
Condemned was probably my favorite 360 launch game, next to COD2
COD 4 was also good.
Bioshock, up until a little after the awesome scene in the middle.
KOTOR was the last great star wars game. No debate.
Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne were probably my favorite RTS games I've beaten. Also a couple of the only RTS games I've beaten haha.
GTA4 was great. Also Vice City.
Oh, and Pokemon Crystal for sure.
I love games, lol.
