Do you choose your friends based on musical tastes?

I'm not even sure what most of my friends listen too. so I guess no.

Yes, I try pick my group of friends exclusively from Scandinavian Bird Metal fans. Sadly I remain friendless and alone.

No I don't, but it helps I think in certain cases if you are into the same stuff, getting conversations started over it , or going to concerts.

Not really. All my friends have varying music tastes. I'm into classic rock, but I have friends who like jazz, pop, metal, etc.

I had a major argument with an ex-girlfriend once because she tried to get me to stop listening to The Who. I think the issue lies not with having friends who have different musical tastes, but with having friends who try to force their tastes on you. I'm all for recommendations, but forcing somebody to listen to something is wrong.

Anybody who chooses friends based solely on their musical tastes doesn't deserve to have any friends.

All my friends like shitty music. Except me. That's why I get along with myself so good.

Like a normal considerate person, I base it on compatibility with myself, and their personality.So no I don't base it on musical taste.

In high school maybe, i just talk to people that make me laugh now. and i listen to enough shit to have at least one thing in common, most of the time... But when i find someone who can listen to The Beatles, The Locust, Iron Maiden, NWA, Radiohead, Clit 45, and KMFDM in that order, i will have found someone truly as fucked up as i am.

No, but it is nice that my best friend pretty much listens to everything I do.

Do I choose my friends based on music taste? No. But most of us have "similar" tastes.

It's nice to have friends that like the same things you like but music taste isn't really what I look for, more geekiness.

No, whatever people listen to, that's fine with me. The only time when it would effect me would be if they were elitists about it, in which case, i'd try and get rid of them ASAP. There's very few things worse than music elitists.
