Cool idea for a thread ... maybe I'll come back when everyone actually has it instead of just wants an invite. I like the circles thing, being able to separate groups. Haven't played around too much though cos no-one I know has got it yet.
@billnyethesciencepie: What did I do? I don't want another way out of the other thousand ways to connect with others. Too many user names and passwords.
For me, I just use whatever social network my friends use. I just get a few friends and use the messaging and chatting functions every once in a while when I need to contact someone, so the most important thing is just having a critical mass of a lot of users being online. So even though I think Google will probably make something pretty cool with Google+, I don't know that it'll be that useful in my case.
That being said, an invite would be nice to introduce other people in case it catches on. My address is xxwillsmith420xx at Gmail. I'll edit this post if I get in and get invites so you guys can all spam me with invite requests.
I want an invite but I'm concerned my Google+ friends will be automatically and irreversibly merged with my GTalk/Gmail contacts and thus people I barely talk to at all will suddenly be on my Android phone contact list.
So after I have Google+ set up and I have a bunch of friends on it if it fire up Gtalk or my Android phone I won't see all those G+ friends suddenly in my contacts there as well?
I doubt Facebook will be copying it anymore than Apple tries to copy Android. Google tends to fill a niche market in these things, usually competing against others who are pretty well set in their ways. Facebook is more concerned with finding new ways to get the word Facebook+1 clickable everywhere else on the internet than actually improving its experience for users. I mean - why do you think there's still no dislike button or a way to see who unfriends you? Afaik those are the only two new features anyone on FB actually asks for ever.
@RE_Player92: facebook already did circles with groups. but judging by reactions i was the only one using them. :|
Even Zuckerburg shrugged off the circle's question with that response. He said power users were the only ones using it but in reality that is because it was poorly implemented. This seems very easy.
@MyaSharona: I tried to use Facebook groups. I really did. Being able to use them from the start instead of going back and doing it with 100s of friends seems like the real difference.
DarkPassageoftheUnknown@gmail.com, because I have no idea what Google + is, but I like that it sounds vaguely exclusive. I want to be ahead of the curve, for once!
@Tyashki: I agree with you. I also don't think it's really all that innovative. However hangouts look great. I noticed Will (Smith) did one with a bunch of tested folks and I wonder how it worked out. Once more people get in that might be the selling point.
