Is there real-world or fictional evidence for the existence of female wizards? My brother says that wizards are strictly male but I found that to be a bold statement. I mean, the chicks in the Harry Potter books are wizards right?
Female Wizards?
" @AndrewB said:A Sorceress is the female version of a Sorcerer." Witches. A female wizard is a Witch. "or a sorceress "
" I always thought witches were female and the wizards were male. "I thought so too, but not sure if they are the same thing. Witches and Wizards have completely different connotations.

No, otherwise, you wouldn't need the different words. You have to have a beard to be a wizard.
" @CowMuffins said:I don't know, honestly nobody knows because they don't exist. But I do know that Sorceress is not the female version of Wizard." @trophyhunter said:isn't a sorcerer just a wizard? Obviously people have not played Fate/stay night -- that or they skipped through the prologue, which explains this clearly. :P
Alright people. A witch is not gender specific. A wizard is not gender specific. Witchcraft is generally considered to be hexes and curses and what not. Wizardry is straight up spells like fireballs and shit. So yes, there can be female wizards.
Besides, female characters can be wizards in games like DND and Demon's Souls. It's just people stereotype their characters in fiction. You never see a female wizard because there's always a male wizard. Female magic users have some unwritten law about them needing to be sexy, and Wizards are usually not very sexy dressing people. Sorcerers and Witches are.
Though, I believe the main character from Slayers was a female wizard. Or was she a sorceress? Meh. Was her name Lena or something?
" @AndrewB said:No, that would be a female sorcerer. There is a difference people!" Witches. A female wizard is a Witch. "or a sorceress "
@TheMustacheHero said:
" So what's the difference between a Wizard and a Warlock? "
Wizards are good, warlocks are bad. Plus they have thicker, sharper beards.
" what are the differences between warlocks, sorcerers, wizards, and witches? "really no difference but for example, Merlin is a wizard and Dr. strange is a sorcerer
Technically a Warlock can be good, and a Wizard can be evil. The difference between the two is that Wizards tend to learn their magics, while Warlocks get their magic from some other, mightier being." @trophyhunter said:

EDIT: Witches tend to practice hexes, and...well, witchcraft. Like voodoo dolls and stuff.
The difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer is that Sorcerers need to carry some sort of magical artifact to channel their spells through, meanwhile Wizards can just say a spell and it happens. A Wizard might use a magical item such as a wand to better his powers, but he does not need it the same way a Sorcerer does.
Keep in mind, everything here is IMO.
Ooh, looks like somebody took AP Magicry. Not all of us were smart enough to turn Brutal Legend into a good RTS. Maybe some of us had to take Honors Magicry, where we spent all our time watching Merlin fuck with his furniture in The Sword in the Stone.
Female wizards are in Diablo 3 right?
Anyway, Mage can be a unisex term. Wizard is usually male, so is a warlock with the female equivalent being a witch in either case. Sorcerer is male, but sorceress is female. They all do fall under the term spell-caster after all, so it all depends on what character you have or how cool you want it to sound.
Forgive me for trying to help answer a question. I'm sorry you had to watch Merlin fuck with furniture. Though, I hear some people might enjoy watching that." @SuperSecretAgenda: Ooh, looks like somebody took AP Magicry. Not all of us were smart enough to turn Brutal Legend into a good RTS. Christ, did the 70s Disney movies suck that much that I'm the only person to have seen at least one of them? Or are schools so cheap that they couldn't afford some asshole in a fake beard to come in and fake enthusiasm for 45 minutes?

I've seen Sword in the Stone. I just...remember almost nothing of it." @SuperSecretAgenda: Christ, did the 70s Disney movies suck that much that I'm the only person to have seen at least one of them? May I ask why you're so hostile?
Because anger is a powerful emotion and the basis of sorcery. You don't remember anything from AP Magicry, do you?
I like debating semantics about entirely fictional creations.
I assume the only reason there are different words used in our modern times is so different fictions can distinguish themselves more. Wizards probably seem a little sillier than sorcerers or something to people. Mages as well.
But fuck all that shit cuz: Motherfucking wizards never die.
