I always say zero, apart from certain cases where I say "oh", as in phone numbers, or years. I guess it's just a dialect thing. Why would you want to say "nought", though? Too long for a number that means nothing.
How do you pronounce the number "0"?
" @Meptron said:You must be a tormented people." I'm from Canada and we pronounce it "Zed-ro" "I can confirm this. "
I'm a Roman and as such never use the number 0.
If I were to use it, however, I expect I'd pronounce it 'oh'.
'Nought' is what I usually say, but I am English (and therefore a bit of a twirp (that's right, im gettin 100% English on your 'arses')).
I do also say Zero though, but not as much as Nought. I never say 'O' because that's a letter. Silly billy.
Now I'm off to have a bit of a chin wag with my mates about the cricket, what what. Bit of a to-do with Essex don't you know?
I've never heard "naught" used to mean "zero"; just "nothing."
Edit: Seems people do use it, as "nought." Nice to learn something.

Dude, I was unaware of all the different ways people say zero. Crazy. I'm just going to start replacing the number with the word "Zilch!" and see how far that gets me in life.
"Why would you want to say "nought", though? Too long for a number that means nothing."Zero is two syllables, nought is one.
I used to pronounce is as "o" when in phone numbers/serial codes/etc, but recently I have just started pronouncing it as "zero" in ever occasion. Makes me sound more technical. :)

Maybe it's the way I speak, but nought has a terrible pattern for me. It sits in the middle of the tongue and I end up having to spit it out. No good.
" @fwylo said:Well, I'm not surprised that Nova Scotians wouldn't say "zed-ro", since the maritimes are known for they're own regional dialects. However, I can ensure you that the rest of Canada does indeed say "zed-ro". Next time you're west of Quebec just start saying "zed-ro' and I think you'll find that you fit right in!" @LiquidPrince said:Where in Canada? Just curious if it might be an east vs. west kinda thing. I live in Nova Scotia and I've only heard people call it Zero. "" @Meptron said:Double Confirmed "" I'm from Canada and we pronounce it "Zed-ro" "I can confirm this. "
Why would you pronounce the letter "Z" as "Zed"?" Most retarded thread of 2010. "
