Why won't it stop itching!? I can't lean against my arms, or... itching! I can't rest on my hand, or... itching! I can't scratch, or... itching!

How do you deal with it!? Do you get used to it? Am I not man enough? Do you all start your days off with an intense man-cry?

And this is also a poll. Do you think Dave should grow his beard back, yea or nae? I vote hell yea.

Before and after shots. Notice how small the second picture is.

Yeah mine itches sometimes. If it comes to a constant itch then I suggest washing it with some shampoo. Maybe trimming it too.

Also, I never seen Dave in a beard. I'm probably going to need to see pics to make a decision.

I think it means you aren't man enough. My bearded friends tell me that once you can grow a full fledged beard, it ceases to itch. It's merely the precursor to the full beard that itches.

There's always a length, when you start to grow a beard where its gonna itch like hell but its only a phase. Deal with it for a couple of days and then you'll be fine once it gets longer. Sooo worth it!

My beard never itches. Even as a new born baby my soft full beard was a soothing presence, like the hand of an angel caressing my chin.

This. It always itches for awhile but after that period it's bearded glory for the rest of your life.

Yeah don't stress about the itching. Just put up with it for a day or two and it most likely won't itch again.

That's how it works for me anyway.

I find at around the two week mark (from clean shaven) that it starts to itch like crazy but if you can just put up with the 3 to 4 days that it lasts you will enter the next phase which is luckily itch free! :D

@FunExplosions: Gotta keep that shit clean, man. Wash it with a strong soap and REALLY get it in there. When I first started growing my goatee in college, a friend of mine actually suggested shampooing it in the shower. Sounds crazy, but it works.
Other than that, there's always an "itchy phase" as several others have commented. You just gotta ride it out, but keeping it clean definitely helps.

@FunExplosions: It'll stop itching.  I'm not sure if it's because of beard length, or just the skin on your face getting used to it...  But it'll stop.

Hmm. Seems all is well, then. But here's another big question!

Can I ever lean against my arms again? Whenever I rest my chin on something, it hurts! A lot!

@FunExplosions: Are you allergic to your hair oils? Like once a week or so wash your bear with a good anti-buildup, anti-itch mint or menthol based cleaning shampoo. It feels good, and will help the itch, and keep your beard hair nice and healthy.

You need to keep your beard clean. I wash mine every time I shower and massage it for a few minutes before and after, using shampoo meant for allergic or sensitive children on it. I've got a selection of combs to brush it out afterwards. What's really necessary for all beards are near-daily rubbings of creams or oils that contain AHA-acid, they take care of a lot of problems, and should very well take care of your pain. Unless perhaps it's that you've got very deep follicle roots.

Been growing a fine stylized goatee for at least five years, spent a lot of time in communities for longhaired people when I was younger, and actually longhaired, taught me a lot of tricks to help make my beard the best on in my town.
(I'm wearing it combed wide in my old profile image, nowadays it's thicker, longer and more organized)

And that's why I grew a goatee!

Also it hides double-chins real well.

Mine never itches, but it's been about a decade since I've actually been clean-shaven - I just run clippers over it twice a month and have a permanent covering of hair of some length or another.

Interesting. I have always washed my facial hair real well, regardless of its length. Perhaps I should not wash it with soaps that could dry the skin out, though. I'll have to try something besides Menthol, though. Oh, man, just the thought of having to smell Menthol all day long makes me wanna puke.

I don't have a real beard (I just don't shave for 3 or 4 weeks), but I am always feeling like scratching and touching and twisting and curling. . . What?

Rest assured from one bearded bomber to another the itchy feeling becomes very normal, you'll get used to it.

I found if you don't scratch it, then any itch just goes away. Never comes back either. After that, you'll enjoy grabbing at it in intense intellectual debates where the man with the biggest beard wins :)

Mine itches when it gets to a certain length, so I trim it.  I'm not interested in a full-fledged beard, just enough well-maintained gruff.

There is a length were it is itchy for me but just man up for a couple days and it will get better.  Also, maybe try and find some conditioner for course hair to try and make it softer.
