I guess it never made it into my childhood or collection so i dont have any nostalgia. Is it actually worth seeing? Or am i going to underwhelmed like Vinny with "The Thing" due to seeing it too late?
Ive never seen The Goonies...
goonies is a must watch! just like gremlins. showed it to a friend of mine few yrs back who hadn't seen it either and she totally fell in love with the movie.
At one point I had the same thought "I never saw Goonies" and a bunch of friends all decided that I had to watch it because it was like "Super awesome" and "pretty funny"..
After watching it I can safely say that it was terrible.
Different tastes and all that

Hell, I've never seen a lot of things that people talk about.
I'm the same way. Never seen the goonies, and if someone had a top 10 movies list it would probably have Citizen Kane, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Casablanca. I haven't seen any of those all the way through or at all. I have seen 2001 but i think that movie is super boring.
I... probably wouldn't bother now. Not if you're a kid seeing it first. As an adult it probably doesn't have that amazing of an effect.
Fun fact: I had my first sexual urges while watching The Goonies. I didn't know that's what they were at the time, as I was young, but looking back on it later I figured out that is totally what happened.
Moving on...
The Thing is fucking awesome (Vinny is crazy).
Goonies is just a silly kids movie. If you're not a kid it definitely won't be that great. It'll be a silly kids movie. But if you find yourself in a position where you have kids and want to sit down and watch a movie with them that they'd like and you'd find tolerable (maybe even amusing), Goonies is alright.
First go see The Monster Squad.
Then see The Goonies.
Didn't like it much as a kid and it's no different as an adult. It's really not that good of a movie, people just have nostalgia for it for whatever reason. Strange because I saw it as a kid plenty of times and never developed any love for it at all. I just don't see much to like about it...it's not like Home Alone where there's a lot of nostalgic love behind it but it also is backed by fantastic John Hughes writing and that wonderful John Williams score.

Haven't seen the Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, or even Star Wars.
Mind blown, I know.
What?! There is no reason for this.
Never seen it, never even heard of it growing up but I did play a bit of the Nintendo game The Goonies II.
Not sure why you decided to post this up instead of just catching the first 30 minutes of the Goonies to see if you'll like it. Pretty good film in the same young adult range of films like Harry Potter in the writing (where they didn't try to write the kids as too childish or idiotic for their age). I wouldn't recommend buying it but it's better than a lot of other adventure films from that decade.
Raiders is awesome. Godfather 1 and/or 2 are awesome. Well, there are soon to be 23 Bond films...so no reason you couldnt watch at least 1 of them!

You're not missing out on a whole lot.
It's better than The Brave Little Toaster at least
@lemonlateralus: Do. Not. Watch. It.
I had three co-workers demanding I see it, so one day I caved and Netflixed (Ha! Fake words!) it.
They grew up with it. I did not.
It was awful.
The Thing, however, is still a great movie. I saw it the day after watching The Goonies, and it really helped to clean away the cheese that The Goonies left in my brain.

I have also never seen this movie, but then again I have never seen..
- Indiana Jones.
- Godfather.
- James Bond.
The Godfather, you can skip. The films are more important than they are good. James Bond, you can skip. They vary from incredibly campy to competent action. But the original Indiana Jones trilogy is going to be released on Blu-Ray soon. Watch them.
I saw it when I was in 6th grade on a field trip and didn't like it but remembered a lot of other kids liking it.
No. Don't watch it now. It's only best remembered as a childhood movie while it is quite awful to watch as an adult.

Good call! That said, The Goonies is still a great movie. You should definitely see it, OP.
And if Vinny didn't like The Thing, I'm not sure I'll be able to visit this website any more.
Edit: And I won't hear another word against The Princess Bride! You people disgust me.

It's not as good as people remember it.
A lot of things that I loved as a kid seem to be like that. Bought a bunch of movies a DVD a while back that I absolutely loved (The Love Bug, Pete's Dragon) and watching them, I still enjoyed the bit of nostalgia, but also questioned why the shit I was so enamored with them.
Goonies is alright though, I go back and watch it now and then and dig it still.
I enjoyed Goonies. One of the movie theaters 3 or 4 years back was showing a screening of it and had a scavenger hunt beforehand. It was fun in a nostalgic way, but I guess if you didn't grow up with it you wouldn't really enjoy it now, as it does have an enormous amount of 80s cheese to it.
@lemonlateralus: I actually just watched The Thing about a month ago for the first time and thought it was an ok film. I didn't think it was amazing or anything, but it held up way better than I thought it would.
I like The Thing, its Vinny who thought he had come too late to it. He did enjoy the puppets though. XD
