I would recommend if you want surround sound to get a real 5.1 / 7.1 system.  I'd also recommend you don't buy anything BOSE.  Unless you're a real audio whore I'd also recommend you just spend a few hundred bucks on your sound system at most.

I use the Logitech Z-5500's btw.

I bought some Logitechs for my PC, they sound great, just make sure you're buying the right kind. I actually wanted a surround system for my TV, oh well. You win some, you win some.

Isn't Bose pretty overpriced? I heard there are way better companies out, but I ain't an audiophile.

Running Logitech Z-640 (5.1) here, have been for like 5 years now (same set, they've been discontinued and replaced). Unfortunately the replacements don't have the acoustic suspension subwoofer the 640s do.

Under $100 will get you decent gaming speakers - mine cost $65 and while somewhat lacking in the mid-range are actually quite decent.

I'd say unless you're an audiophile that paying more than a few hundred for speakers is pointless.

Now if you are looking to get a receiver as well, you may well end up paying a large sum of money for them. I'd say do your research and look for professional and user reviews.

5.1 is probably the minimum you should be looking for in a surround system. I also agree with the other people...Bose: better sound through advertising.
