I'm not going to do the usual thinly-veiled-excuse thing and post mine. I want to know what music people listen to and love, but which they would never expect other people to like. I mean things like "that dumb song that I heard live in a bar while I was kind of depressed, and which I could never get out of my head" or "that CD that was in the player when I bought my used car, and which I inexplicably liked, probably because it was associated with the excitement of purchasing a vehicle."
Though if you have other reasons (either more or less personal) that will do just fine.
Music that you like which nobody else does or should
And why you like them would also be nice :)
Chiptune!
And to name a few more artists for you to look up yourself; Bit Shifter, Breakbeat Heatbeat, Fighter X, George & Jonathan, Henry Homesweet, Saskrotch and SMILETRON.
Captain Beefheart is one of, if not the greatest improvisational lyricists of all time. Great chunks of the his vocals on albums were recorded off the cuff, straight out of his head. His ability to string stream of consciousness words into poetry is mind blowing to me.
He also wrote very complex music that at one moment would be complete discord, but would inexplicably come together for one brief moment to only crash and collapse back into atonality.
I have no special interest in poetry at all but the Captain's words penetrate.
If you boil it down to pure words this is my favorite thing he ever did. I have it memorized:
I've always loved listening to Screamo. Contrary to what the name might make you believe, there's a lot more to screamo than shouted vocals. But nobody cares D:
Anyways, here's some vids:
Indian Summer
I Hate Myself
City of Caterpillar
I have a fondness for nu-metal that far outstrips the actual quality of the music, I couldn't tell you why though.
I also love Fantomas and anything else Mike Patton does because it is the kind of insane that I can totally get behind:
I used to listen to t.A.T.u which I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Other than that I think the music I listen to is good music, regardless of what other people think about it.
Personally I like Austrian Death Machine though I'm 100% OK with the fact that a lot, if not everyone else fucking hates them.
I get weird looks for most of my music, but that's probably because I hang out with squares. Probably the ones that they'd hate most are Jeffrey Lewis or Tim Buckley.
I also really like Pulp, but the subject matter (I.E., rape, unfaithfulness, S&M) is not something I would share with others.
I like a band called ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D, mostly because they did the theme song for a show I like. They're pretty much just a Japanese Sum 41, which is fine with me because I kinda like Sum 41 but I hate listening to the stupid words they're saying. This alleviates that problem, because I have a very limited idea of what the heck they are talking about. I don't like to tell many people about them because their name is so ridiculously dumb.
@ZeForgotten: Austrian Death Machine are no As I Lay Dying but they are good!
Nickelback, specifically their first two albums. I love them both, but everyone seems to hate the band, and I don't really get why. There's nothing really offensively bad about them, yeah they're a bit "poppy" but is it that bad? Maybe one of the guys is a dick or something and I'm missing the point. Either way I find their early work to be really good.
I have an affinity for some pop music that manages to baffle the people that know me. I don't think liking pop bands counts as stuff that nobody else does though.
I listen to a group called OFWGKTA,which makes really good music, but really nobody should be listening to it,because the lyrics are really dark and even sadistic. The weirdest part is that they're all teenagers and they say that they make this kind of music just because it's fun.Take a listen to one of their youngest artist named Earl Sweatshirt, who's only 16:
Haven't met anybody else, but 111108 by Alessandro Cortini gets me going better than his album projects

I still listen to some terrible things I've carried over from my music taste years ago, admittedly still enjoy &refuse to let go of. Namely Marilyn Manson &Slipknot

I'm at the cooooombination PIZZA HUT AND TACO BELL.
The Paper Chase. They constantly play off key and slightly out of tune. They do things like having scissors for percussion. They also know how to combine pure noise with beautiful harmony and create something completely unique. Well worth checking out.
