DISCLAIMER:
I figure I should start using this blog more. Not because I have some nascent desire to have my thoughts validated by the acknowledgment of others (though that's always nice), but mostly to help discipline myself to start writing more.
A brief set-up about myself: I'm a self-diagnosed game addict. Not in the sense that I am constantly playing games (I probably would if I could), but that I'm constantly immersing myself in the world of games. I follow game news for games I'll never play, watch people play games I'll never play, read about the building blocks of game design and production, and everything in between. So of course that's how I ended up addicted to this site, and an adoring fan of the Whiskey staff.
But unfortunately, I've never found many people in my immediate real world surrounding that share my enthusiasm for games of both yesteryear and today. I'm sure they're out there, but I've never been a part of the kind of crowd you find in the virtual videogame blogosphere. And even within sites like GiantBomb, I've always been kind of shy when it comes to actively interacting in forums and chatrooms, which I hope to eventually change.

ANYWAY:

I've been feeling some major Canadian patriotism* over the last few weeks, and it's all thanks to a combination of new music and watching hours of The Kids in the Hall.

*I'm not Canadian. But that's a technicality I can look beyond.

First:
Diamond Rings

Really digging this guys voice, made better by the juxtaposition of his appearance. His debut album is really impressive, super catchy electro pop and without a single weak track. It is one of those bands (well people, he's a solo act) that also will perform full acoustic sets of their music at certain venues. I think there's something really cool about essentially forging two sounds with the music you make, and having them both sound compelling. Even so, some of his music videos come off a little cheesy, but I feel in the good way.

Tegan and Sara

These two are pretty awesome, just discovered them myself (from a link off of a Hesta Prynn song Jeff had tweeted).

And regarding The Kids in the Hall:

I get the feeling that CBC must have at some point required their shows to feature some element of Canadian culture in every episode. Part of me wants to say that I heard a Canadian producer mention that in an interview once. But never the less, all the little mentions of Canadian culture in KITH, be it the Toronto Bluejays, to the French Influence, to their relationship with The Queen, all make me strangely pine for their country. Maybe it's because they seem so perfect and harmless, and all their stereotypes are so quaint and unoffensive. As a people, they seem like the progressive, hipper cousin of the US. I know this is a romanticized view of Canada coming someone who lives in Texas, but dammit if it doesn't make me want to live there.

More importantly, how to derail an interview with absurdly amazing cleavage:

I'd been scouring the internets for KITH interviews for a research paper I'm doing, and for *some* reason (well technically two) I've watched this one multiple times (just jump to 1:25, to get to what everyone was thinking about).

As a followup, it made me immediately think of this:

I'm not going to say you don't make a valid point. Sometimes it comes off lazy when someone just pastes a bunch of youtube links and don't give enough context. I'll keep that in mind in future posts.

But seriously, that's a dick way of saying it. It really encourages me to attempt to make further contributions to this site when I have such supportive people commenting on them.
