Music in general is not garbage, but might get a bad reputation because the constant spew of "Hip-Hop" like Soulja Boy crap, and stupid untalented bullshit like Hannah Montana.

I think music today is great. Not nessicerly new music. Now with the internet you got to be able to find something your into. People are longer limited to the crap in their area and their lame friends to find music. Can you imagine living in Kentucky 50 years ago, not having anything to listen to except bluegrass and no where to turn to for new music.
New mainstream musics problem all stems form the lack of soul and blues influences. I love anything that makes me make a disgusting face and have to say "thats just nasty".
True, today's music is not at all what it use to be. Of course it all depends on your taste and your interests. For me it's mostly rock like Incubus, Metallica, AC/DC etc.
Whaaaaaaa? Music today is awesome! There's way way way too much crappy music, but it's been that way all along. It's just that you don't remember it because of its crappyness. There are still great artists active today.
Why is it so hard for everyone to see that? With information being so readily available, people switch between new bands at will, depending on what they like, as opposed to earlier when talent rose to the top because they were discovered by record labels, etc.
Don't blame emos or Disney or any of that. They just happen to be capitalizing on today's music distribution. "Good" music is out there, you just have to look.
Because of popular culture. The reason we don't have great bands anymore is because gay little emos have taken over with their fusion of metrosexual garbage, metal and rock. Where are the great bands like metallica, led zeppelin, the beatles, judas priest, black sabbath, deep purple, dio, megadeath? Nowhere because being emo pays better. Now we have Metro Station, Simple Plan, Underoath, Silverstien and other crap that makes me want to throw up everytime i hear their whiney little girl voices. And that's just whats happened to the rock and punk scene. I still find a lot of good metal that comes out every once anda while. Protest the hero's new album being one of the better metal albums I've heard this decade. But metal isn't without its pollutants *coughdragonforcecough*. Hip hop and rap have been diluted to the point where you see a new one every couple weeks. Hip Hop singers and rappers come and go like nothing I've ever seen before. Also it doesn't require talent now. You just need a unique or generic look; whatever they can sell (which happens to be almost anybody). They take care of the actual singing for you, because who would expect a singer to actually sing! If every emo died and white kids stopped trying to be black, the music industry would be a beatuiful place filled with actual talent. But until that day, I'll stick with my underground metal and the classics like Maiden.

Its way easier to find older cool stuff too. I just found this cool band called Dead Moon. There even from my home state but, I had never heard of them.
Its not really today's music, its just that all the music you hear is trash. To find good bands you have to look for yourself and not even bother with the shit they play on radio or TV.
