For my psych class, I'm going to be writing a paper about the riot in San Francisco after the Giants won. As part of it, I want to talk about people's reactions to the riot, and I'm hoping to get some baseline data here. So....
What did you think of the riot? Surprised? Disgusted? Uninterested?
React to the SF Giants Riot
This." People are stupid. "
More specifically, sports seem to tap into that part of peoples mind that is unpleasantly physical and tribal. Its not surprising to me that this can get violent, especially considering the fact that nobody in the crowd could really consider THEMSELVES to be responsible for the event.
This is one reason why I like video games, nobody is rioting over Grand Theft Auto. Count the number of sports related deaths against the number of POSSIBLY game related ones. Not even in the same league.
EDIT: You realize that this is pretty crappy baseline data? Users of Giant Bomb is not a well randomized sample.
Why start a riot when your team wins something like this? Does your city not deserve the championship?
As you can see, I'm pretty disgusted. It's a shame; our society these days.
" People are stupid. "Bingo. Most ESPECIALLY boozed-up sports fans. Of course, boozed-up people in general are dumber than the already ignorant population.
Alcohol = instant idiot, in a can/bottle.
I was there, in the thick of it, and I have it say it was 99% good people having fun, and the shitty 1% of people who were just looking for an excuse to riot. Even in the streets where there was rioting, there were people there who weren't participating. It really got blown out of proportion. When people are checking into a riot on FourSquare, it's not a real riot. Now if it had taken place in Oakland...
riots are awesome, you know how much stuff I came up on loot? Really surprised it happened in San Fran though....
I was surprised that it happened in SF, but I guess in the end there's no stopping the things from happening. Even if it wasn't all people from SF, others from around the Bay would come as an excuse to break shit.
Well like within the same week, Oakland got jealous and had their own riot. Perhaps some compare and contrast?" EDIT: To be helpful, I was there for the SF riot. it basically went down like: "OMG, something to celebrate. Wooooo. Hey, people with lives and friends and loved ones you wanna get out of here and take this party home, I mean not much else to do since its not a real block party or nothing." Then the only people left were the people with no lives and no friends, they were like: "Yo, this rush of endorphines is new to be since I don't normally have fun, how far do you think I can throw this beer bottle?"
Shook my head at the ignorance and went to sleep.
You're not gonna be surprised about people here in this little country not giving a flying fuck.
But all kinds of riots are stupid.
Those people would cry like little bitches if someone destroyed something of theirs.
Legalize the shooting of those people, then there's some fun in it for the rest of us :D
