As an American, my television watching scope is rather limited to what's available. A couple months back, I was flipping through Wikipedia and discovered the Mighty Boosh. It was a very charming show but I'm getting close to the end of series. (There's only 20 episodes in total). So, I was wondering if there's any similar shows I could get into.
Recommend Some British Television Shows
The I.T. Crowd, Peep Show, Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, Snuff box, Nathan Barley - There are some cameos by Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett (Barrett is actually one of the main characters in Nathan Barley) in most of that stuff and a whole lot of shared cast between them. There isn't all that much that's too similar to the Mighty Boosh though because that's pretty weird, it's definitely worth checking out the radio show if you really enjoyed it though!
EDIT: also! Brass Eye!
There really aren't many, if any, good British TV shows. Luther is probably the best thing I've seen in years.
Comedy
The IT Crowd, Red Dwarf (Sci-Fi Comedy, possibly my favourite TV Show ever), Black-Adder, The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (based of the Radio/Book series), The Young Ones (80's Sitcom about a anarchic group of students, worth watching just for the "Bambi" which has them going on University Challenge).
Panel Show
QI, Mock the Week
Drama
Doctor Who, Sherlock, Johnathan Creek (A Mystery show about an inventor of magicians tricks solving 'impossible' crimes/situations)
There more but I cant think of them off the top of my head.
For comedy:
Green Wing (like Scrubs, but funny all the time, none of that relationship melodrama shit or preachy messages, and way more surreal)
Spaced (essential if you're an Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg fan)
Inbetweeners (hilarious school comedy)
No Heroics (Superheroes and classic British humour!)
Peep Show (So excellent funny and innovative with its first-person camera comedy; helps if you're a fan of David and Mitchell)
" There really aren't many, if any, good British TV shows. Luther is probably the best thing I've seen in years. "
really? I've seen loads.
Comedy
Black books, Peep Show, Mock the Week, QI, the Office, Top Gear (very funny, though not meant to be a comedy), Hustle
Sci-fi
Dr. Who, Torchwood, Being Human, Strange
Thriller/Drama
Luthor, the new Sherlock Holmes (can't remember the name), Taggart,
" There really aren't many, if any, good British TV shows. "Lies. Most of our drama/action isn't great but our comedy programming is way better than the American stuff.
Peep Show, The Office, Father Ted, Black Books, The I.T Crowd, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Mock the Week, The Mighty Boosh and Extras are great.
The absence of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes is pretty much unforgivable. That said it's not at all like the Mighty Boosh, which I personally hated, so it may well not be for you.
From a comedy standpoint, @Lucidforest gives a good accounting of it, to which I would add The Two Ronnies and Only Fools and Horses if you feel like getting a little more classic with it.

Doctor Who"
" Fawlty Towers. There is only one season, but it's great. It's on Netflix instant play. "And to correct one of the original posters, Fawlty Towers has two seasons and they're both classics in their own right.
I would also recommend Bottom & The Fast Show as well as Harry Enfield & Friends. (Comedies)

" So, I've reached the second page of my notepad already. I feel like I've missed out on a lot. "I wouldn't worry about it too much. A lot of these shows started/aired when I was too young to watch them and appreciate them or I wasn't even born!
The setting was Irish, the writer was Irish and all of the actors were Irish. All Channel 4 did was publish it, which was probably for the best as RTE is shit. But I agree with you the OP should definitely watch it." @Dylabaloo said:

" @HandsomeDead said:Not really. Most of the shows people like are over a decade old and things like Mock The Week and QI are clever shows for dumb people. It's even worse with Dr. Who which is a kids' show on at prime time. When you have channels like BBC and ITV whose schedules revolves around soaps, mini series which revolve around a family in crisis and not much else, I can't see how you can champion it over American TV. Sure, a lot of American network TV is bad but there's at least new shows on every Autumn and considering the charge involved for the BBC Channels, there's nothing there comparable to HBO, AMC or even FX and TNT. The only thing that's consistent are the documentaries." There really aren't many, if any, good British TV shows. Luther is probably the best thing I've seen in years. "Complete and utter blasphemy. Life on Mars is great. Make sure you get the British version, the American one is really bad . Also all the Monty Pyton stuff is amazing.
The League of Gentlemen is pretty good if you are into weird dark humour, the same with Psychoville.
The Mitchell and Webb look is a pretty great sketch show in my opinion, the Peter Serafinowicz show was also really good though I think there is only 6 episodes which is kind of a shame.
Catterick was a another short series but it had a similar sort of bizarre style to the boosh if not totally that over the top, Vic and bob's other series Shooting Stars is much more over the top in style though.
Look around you is another good show, though it changes quite a lot between the first and second series from being a fake teaching aid series to more of a gadget show, but both still have some hilarious moments.
Also QI is pretty amazing.

Unfortunately this is kinda true. I enjoy Doctor Who, Sherlock, Being Human for whatever they are and peepshow is one of the few UK comedies I can actually stand but Its pretty inconsistent. the last Thing I remember finding really funny that wasn't from the US was Nathan Barley and that feels like an age away. US tv is just much, much better I look at stupid ITV and BBC dramas and cannot find anythign that comes even close the quality of something like Mad Men.
That Mitchel and Web Look and A Bit of Fry and Laurie for Sketch comedy(Though Fry and laurie is real old)
Black Books, IT crowd(Mostly for Moss) and Father Ted for comedy series'.
QI and Would I lie To You? for panel stuff comedy.
Dr. Who and Torchwood can be good.
There is other stuff but I watch less than 3 hours of television a week so I cannot remember.
The UK Office. It's pretty short compared to the US equivalent. Not quite stretching over 7 seasons or anything... It's also pretty different aswell which most don't expect when going in from the US to the UK version. More adult, darker humour too. Plus David is sometimes just plain annoying instead of goofy funny.
The trouble for the UK is that America does drama so well, and so often, that when a Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes or Sherlock comes along, as fantastic as it it, you know that in the US they've got a couple of equally great shows running at the same time. Also, ITV does some absolutely awful TV, bringing the entire nation down with it.
Still, Life On Mars (UK), Ashes to Ashes (in that order) and Sherlock should be on your list for Drama.
Blackadder II, III and IV (1st isn't all that great), Fawlty Towers, The Office (funnier than the US, but much shorter), Extras, I'm Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, The Day Today and Peep Show for comedy.
If you're into detective shows and mystery, Poirot and Miss Marple may be the only 2 shows ITV produce that I watch, and they're very good.

I disagree, Life On Mars and Ashes to Ashes not only come close, but possibly beat the quality of something like Mad Men, which itself is very good.
Inbetweeners, Spooks, Mock the Week, Misfits, Top Gear, That Mitchell and Web look, Extras, Ricky Gervais' The Office, Peep show, Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
