Well, with the release of Wolverine next week, the summer movie season unofficially kicks off.  The season used to start around Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) but Hollywood has been releasing their blockbusters earlier and earlier for the past few years and now it seems to start May 1st.  Anyway, here is a list of all the movies I could find details on for this summer as well as links to their trailers.

  • What do you think will be the best movie of the summer?
  • What movie will make the most money?
  • Which films are you most excited to see?

Bruno and Inglourious Basterds. I'm not really excited for anything else.

Edit: I don't think Inglourious Basterds should be really called a "war drama".

Just watched the trailer. It seems like nothing more than a cash-in on the worst series of movies I've ever seen. Terrible.
I don't really watch movies, so don't be surprised if I don't step foot in a theater for the entire summer.

Well i'm interested in Bruno, Inglourious Basterds, and Ponyo.
Not sure how closely the UK release dates match up to the US ones though.

I'll probably end up seeing Harry Potter and Transformers 2 come to think of it.

Bruno and Inglorious Basterds are the only ones that really look good to me. I think Wolverine will suck, and the rest of those films I'm either too young to appreciate (I didn't grow up with Transformers or G.I. Joe). I believe Halloween 2 comes out in August so I'm pretty pumped for that too.

Public Enemies and UP.

I'll probably see Transformers anyways, but I'm only marginally interested in it.  Otherwise I don't know enough about the rest of the movies to be excited for them.  Anything that gets great reviews out of the gate and looks interesting enough to be able to drag someone out to see it with me I'll probably check out.

I'm looking forward to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the new Star Trek. The first two that I listed will probably be the two highest grossing films of the year with Transformers making the most this year.

That's the shittiest summer movie list in years.

That being said, I want to see Ice Age 3, it's the only one i'm even remotely interested in watching.

Harry Potter is a guaranteed watch, as well as Public Enemies and Bruno. Inglorious Bastards looks great, too. I also saw the trailer for The Hangover and it looks hilarious.

Terminator and Up, too.

These are the ones I want to see. I should also be able to see them all free as long as my friend keeps working at the theater. Somewhat excited for X-Men, liked Da Vinci Code so interested in Angels & Demons. Terminator, meh, never liked Terminator but might see it anyway. Transformers is one of the bigger movies I want to see, but Harry Potter trumps it. GI Joe, well, not quite sure.

I'll probably see the first four movies on your list, plus UP, making my list: Wolverine, Star Trek, Angels & Demons, Terminator Salvation, and UP. Wolverine and Angels & Demons I don't exactly expect to be good, but I like X-Men, and I only read one of Dan Brown's books, so I'm interested in seeing what's up.

Aside from those, this summer is a whole lot of meh.

You know, now that I look at it all, I think you are right.

This season's fare seems like an unusually bland and lifeless menu of summertime cinema.  Even the Pixar flick doesn't move me and I'm a sucker for 99% of their stuff.  And, even though I created this thread, I can't see myself going to the theater over the next few months for any of these movies.  But, maybe the reviews will change my mind in the end.  Personally, I'm really only intrigued by the new Star Trek update, Public Enemies and 500 Days of Summer.  I'm skeptical but hopeful for the new G.I. Joe and Terminator flicks.  Everything else I'll just wait and see what the response is before I invest and time or money in the films.
