Just curious too see who the fine people on the GB community think are most important figures in history!?!? Well?
I would have 2 say: Jesus Christ, Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler..... Discuss!
Addictedtopinescent of course
Bad jokes aside, probably too many people too name, it depends on how you look at it, politics, science etc etc
I have no clue, but I'll try anyway.
Of the philosophers, John Locke had the forsight to understand that human's were not inherently horrible people, and given the chance would lead a decent life (by chance I mean freedom, naturally)... I'd say that's important, even if other (misguided) philosophers have had a greater hold of the world mindshare. Then there's Plato, Machiavelli, Hobbes, and all the other thinkers that are still read today. And Plato's kinda been dead a really long time.
If the United States is the most powerful country to ever exist, the key men who created it might deserve this distinction. It should be noted that many of them worshipped Locke.
The men behind Christianity might count, it being the most successful global religion to date. If Jesus existed, he naturally gets most of the credit.
The worlds conquerors, Caesar, Alexander and the like, could count. If King David existed, he'd totally have a chance.
Then there's the inventors. The man behind the steam engine, or the wheel, or penicillin, or the firearm, or the internet, etc...
This is not an easy question to answer.
I don't understand how people go around wearing Che T shirts and whatnot. Eveveryone who knows anything about history knows that Che was not a revolutionary, but a sadistic, racist war criminal.People don't understand, they wear the shirts because they think they're cool.
"Darwin hands down "
" Why would anybody say Jesus? Come on now. "Well, he has had a very influential....influence on world history in general. OK, pretty much European, but since that dictated the set of beliefs that would house several influential world empires....
I'm going to have to go with Copernicus on this one. He was one of the first people to actually go against the beliefs of the very powerful Catholic Church and show scientifically just how he came to his conclusion. This paved the way for pretty much all scientific endeavors since then, allowing science to finally exist as a way of thinking.
And if for some reason you don't know what Copernicus did, there's always this.
" I'm going to have to go with GALILEO on this one. Easy Jesus followed by Hitler, and you could maybe make a case for Alexander the Great but less likely. Obviously Jesus and his way of thinking changed everything, toppled the Pagan Religions and set up the idea of a Monotheistic God. (Yes the Jewish religion was before this but was a small and very secular group.) Christianity spread, started the Crusades and with it's backing Discovered the New World. Hitler was very recent but I have a feeling 2000 years from now that people will remember these two people the most.
