Do people still blog nowadays? :)
What the Hell is a Blog anyway?
When I google for "blog definition", I get the following:
blog/blôg/
Noun: |
|
Which doesn't seem accurate to me. That sounds far more like a forum.
I would say that a blog is 1 user posting the goings-on and personal opinions of the events transpiring in their lives; this might be anything from their day-to-day activities, recent high-profile controversies, or what they think of the latest movies, or any number of other things. The difference between a blog and a forum is that a blog is one person posting with an intent to tell everyone their opinions, and a forum is a person starting a thread with the intent to discuss an issue.
At the end of the day, though, the two are pretty similar. It's like the difference between porn with a plot and a particularly raunchy movie - you can't draw an absolute and definite line between the two, but good judgement tells you the difference.

I recently described my own blog as: "an arrogant series of convoluted tirades."
Are you sure you weren't thinking of my blogs?
It is a web log - i.e. a diary/journal entry posted online. Internet people are kind of shitty at naming things/ using words - see 'gifted', 'lol', etc. - so it became blog. Most blogs are on sites built for 'blogging', and rarely get any viewers because who gives a fuck. We have blogging on here because sometimes you want to share your thoughts on something but realize that it's not exactly a good discussion starter. For example, if you wanted to rail against the sexual depravities of penguins, the appropriate spot to do that would be in a blog. If you merely wished to seek the opinions of others on the sexual habits of penguins, then you would start a normal thread.
