When I visited China in 2000, we went to a fancy restaurant in Beijing where they served Peking Duck.  While we were waiting for the ducks to arrive, a friendly Chinese man sitting next to me offered me one of these.  "For your sister" he said - and how could I refuse.  He chopsticked over to my drooling mouth a fried scorpion.  I basically had to eat 3.  One for my sister, Mother, and Father.

I've had raw octopus as well as raw lobster, both of which I was terrified to eat but turned out to be good.  Also, pickled cactus was pretty exotic at the time as well.

I ate ostrich and a lot of alpaca when I was in Peru.  I've also done Dim Sum in Chinatown with my buddies and probably can't name/ID half the stuff that I ate.

I ate a banana that came from Africa a couple days ago. I also had Fish & Chips on wednesday. Not exotic for me but it would be unimagianable to someone from rural China or something.

Yeah, location has a lot to do with things.  For instance, me, I just finished the last of our homegrown watermelons 2 days ago.  It's really amazing - throw a couple seeds in the ground, tend to the sprouts and plants a little, wait 4 months, and "Presto" - delicious snacks.

Then I'll play the name game... China, Philippines, or Vietnam.

I've had Balut.  Half chick, half egg.  A delicacy in the Philippines but one of the worst experiences of my life.   Then my friend tells me I didn't have to eat the chick.

I don't know... I've had duck tongue before, but I normally don't have exotic food because it normally tastes disgusting.

A scorpion from Scorpion Vodka. I tried to swallow it whole, but I just kept gagging, and when I chewed it tasted like pencil.

I guess it depends on what you consider exotic, as soemthing like Eel, Octopus, and sea urchin roe are all pretty common in good sushi places, but somewhat 'exotic'.  I guess mine would be powdered eggs (probably the most vile concoction i can think of that i've ever eaten) when I traveled to London, and snails when in France.  Seriously, powdered eggs, no good.

@Toxic: Rotting shark meat. That's a delicacy in Iceland that they prepare by throwing it into a bog and let it preserve for 2 months are something isn't it?

Exotic you say? Well I've eaten birds nest soup, fish air bladder, shark fin soup, snake soup, wild pigeon, duck (accidental roadkill commited by my dad, that's exotic enough), cuttlefish and some other's that I've forgotton. Love to try an ostrich egg though, I know that Queen Victoria once proclaimed that it was the most delicious breakfast that she's ever had.

Ah yes, the dreaded pecilly tasting scorpion in vodka gig.  I've had a similar gig go down with tequila.  Got drunk and eventually conceded I should swallow the agave worm.  Don't remember much about the worm but I did have a bad headache the next day.

Shocking, a user on the internet, who I assume is British, is talking about somebody's mother and perhaps sex.  If there was never a Jeffrey Dahmer, I might not have cause for alarm.

Jellyfish and chicken feet.

I had those at a Dim Sum restaurant that I was coerced into going to. I did not enjoy them.

I've had some of that salty licorice from Holland. Top-Drop. Disgusting.

I tend to not like any food that could be considered exotic to my locale. I'll stick with cheeseburgers, thanks.

I can't beat fried scorpion. The most exotic thing I've eaten is shark, which I realize isn't all that exotic. No idea what kind of shark it was.

I've also eaten alligator... which might count as exotic depending on where you're from.

I had raw horse mane sashimi in Osaka. My buddy tricked me into eating it when we were out drinking. He told me it was fish. It was like eating fat, so disgusting. I've never had actual horse meat though, this was just like fatty cartilage. I consider myself an adventurous eater, but that was just too much. It's like eating a dog or a cat or something.
