Interesting question. I'm going only for broad genres here because realistically you could segregate each genre into about fifty subsets. Music aficionados may be disappointed, but if you're one of those people who actually goes that deep... well, I cannot help you.
In any case, Electronica/Dance is all me. Adult contemporary (Pop) comes very close, as does just general rock. Electronica, because I love dancing. For them people in Europe, Ministry of Sound puts out some solid stuff. Too bad you have to pay through the nose to get it here, although, to be honest, their releases as of the last few years have been trending downwards in quality. What about you guys? I guess a lot of people will vote "video game". Because, you know, Nobou Uematsu is really suitable music for the commute to work every morning.
(Sorry if a similar poll has been posted already; I did a search and came up with nada.)
What's your favorite genre of music (broad genres)?
Well,i love me some 'Rock N' Roll',so i chose that. Especcially golden age AC/DC,which where AWESOME at the time, and i loved their songs Highway to Hell and Sattelite Blues the most. Close second would have to be Video Game Music because i love Vidya Game Music, and its nice to listen to it. Also, i like Techno as well as Classic music. MOZART FTW :P!!!
If you have four subsets of techno here then the poll fails for not including ska or punk rock. I voted for 'alternative rock' because I like to sound like I'm fifty.
Rock it is. *votes for Rock*
Rush, Queen, Eagles, Arctic Monkeys, The Police, Black Sabbath (even Iommi considers the band Hard ROCK), etc. I never really dug into folk tunes. Simon and Garfunkel is the farthest I went. =/
I like the classical orchestrated soundtracks pretty much like the one in Assassin's Creed 2 by Jesper Kyd. Though I mainly listen to heavy metal when it comes to my music preference, I tend to appreciate classical pieces alot which is why orchestrated soundtracks are my choices as well. Electronic music is also good if done right, a good example of one I liked was from an indie game mod called Neotokyo where their musician Ed Harrison composed good atmospheric scores of electronic music to portray a near future setting.
My most favorite of all too is Akira Yamaoka who is responsible for all the sounds and music of Silent Hill which changed my perception of how alternative music can fit the horror genre.
God dammit. I was totally going to flame the OP for not including punk or ska, but I got sidetracked. Guess ya beat me to it." If you have four subsets of techno here then the poll fails for not including ska or punk rock. I voted for 'alternative rock' because I like to sound like I'm fifty. "
I am a big folk guy. I like contemporary folk though. I don't see how the Tetris theme song fits in there.
I think more along the lines of this when I think folk.
@ThePwnee: I had your back, no worries.
I'll see Rock in general (and all it's various sub genres), but I listen to anything really. Currently listening to the Remixed Dance Monster Hunter Soundtrack, which is weird.
Rock, more specifically any band that specializes in improvisation, live performance, and that crosses genre borders. Most of the bands i listen to are rock bands that sound more like jazz bands, or jazz bands that sound more like electronic bands.
All kinds of metal. I dig all kinds of strange heaviness, but mostly Black and it's sub-genres
Following up closely with the spectacularly broad Electronic genre. Aggrotech, EBM, futurepop, synthpop, trance, glitch and the list goes on.
Haha. Yeah, I'm one of those guys who goes kind of deep with this sort of stuff.
I like so many different types of music but if I had to boil it down to one type then rock... it encompasses such a huge selection.
also...what the fuck is "art music"????????????????????
For me, it would definitely be ska. Since that isn't a choice, I was going to select my second favorite genre, punk. It seems that one's not there either though. Out of the choices available, alternative would probably be most appropriate.
@wrathofconn: If you're ever looking for new ska bands, there's quite a few really good Japanese ska bands out there. Surprisingly, there is a good ska scene in Japan. Lots of good bands and they put on some great shows. Here's a good cross-section of different bands and styles in case you want to check any out. Moody Rudy, Ska Ska Club, Asakusa Jinta, Rude Bones, Ore Ska Band, Dallax.
I voted Jazz even though it's probably listen to more Alt/Indie/College Rock and I definitely have more plays of anime related Jpop on my Ipod this past year. But, Jazz is timeless for me.
I try to appreciate all genres of music though I am more partial to rock music than anything else.
(I accidentally voted for Metal. T_T)
" I am a big folk guy. I like contemporary folk though. I don't see how the Tetris theme song fits in there.YES! Kings of Convenience are fantastic! They are actually from my home town. :D

But as for what my favorite genre of music is... I really don't have one favorite type of music. I listen to basically whatever I enjoy and what fits my mood.
