Please correct these figures if I'm wrong. Last time I heard Halo 3 sold 8 Million copies and the origional Gears sold 6 million.
I think gears 2 will sell more than halo 3 . Your thoughts

There is a strong possibility that Gears 2 could outsell Halo 3 on LAUNCH DAY, but in the long run, it's going to be pretty tough since Halo 3 has quite a lead on Gears 2 at the moment.  On top of which, even with as popular as Gears is, the online community isn't anywhere NEAR as huge as Halo 3.  You also have to remember that the Gears 1 sales figures include the PC release, not just 360.  Halo 3 is ONLY on 360.  Therefore, it creates a bit of a debaucle whenever you try to compare the two.

because in the long run it is definitely possible
because an avid halo fan as i am, it is getting harder to recommend that 360 newcomers get into halo
because that requires them to go back to 2 original xbox games to catch up to a campaign point where they can play halo 3,
and seeing as gears of war 1 is going for cheap on 360, i can easily recommend they grab that and then get gears 2,
so i dont think it will beat it launch wise,
but overall yeah, its a more accessible game right now than halo 3 is

Probably not. Even though it's almost a guarantee that it will be better than Halo 3, Halo 3 had an extremely huge fanbase that I don't think Gears 2 can beat.

It`s very possible, both are very popular 360 games, maybe in the long run, I can see it even outselling halo 3`s launch day amount but who knows.

However, with the hype around Gears 2, there's a very strong possibility that it would outsell on day 1.  I would take those odds.

I highly doubt it, the fact is Halo as an IP is way more entrenched in gaming culture then something like Gears. Halo is the face of Xbox, I didn't see anyone pulling up their sleeve with a Gears tat when it got announced.

Gears 1 went so well because there wasn't a current gen Halo out on the xbox... Gears was sent out with a HEAP of xbox consoles, now Halo 3 is... So technically they are still selling copies???

no, Halo was way more hyped, and got way more publicity, and has a way huger fanbase that dates back to the first Xbox.

Gears of War 1 came as a pretty big hit. Now that more people have 360's, and more people have played Gears 1, the anticipation and audience for this game is much bigger than it was for the original. This game will sell a ton. Will it outsell Halo 3? I think it has a very fair shot.

Not likely. Halo is such a massive brand by this point, and as big as the advertising for GoW2 will be, it can't rival Halo. It'll sell big, but not Halo big.

What has halo sold at this point though? 10 million? It might reach there at the end of 360's life but it probably wont go toe to toe when it comes to first years (12 months) sales. It will sell ALOT though,

I hope not. The Halo community is trash, and Gears is getting to that breaking point. I'm sick and tired of seeing MLG gamer pictures and gamertags, bragging bios/mottos, overcompetitive assholes, etc. Either way, who cares. It'll sell big, and a lot of people will enjoy the game. What an unnecessary question to ask.
