    EDIT: SPOILERS ARE NOW OPEN!

    PRIOR MESSAGE

Welcome to the Unsanctioned Unofficial Game Pass Game Club. Our 23rd game of 2023 is Ghost Song. The target completion date is November 6, 2023.

We ask that until that date you use the forum software to mark any spoilers, either story based or mechanical, in the discussion below. Ideally the bulk of the discussion will occur after November 6, but if you want to comment before then you are welcome to so long as the spoilers are marked. We ask that if you leave a comment before that date you also come back to the thread after it to read other people’s comments and respond to them, though of course we cannot force you to do so.

All are welcome to participate regardless of whether you have stated a preference to or not and there is absolutely no commitment. You do not have to finish the game to participate but please let us know if you have not.

You are also free to come back any time after the completion date and share your thoughts! This club is meant to be open to all whenever you want to join in the fun!

You can find out more about the Unsanctioned Unofficial Game Pass Game Club or suggest future games for it here.

    What is Ghost Song?

A creepy metroidvania where you explore a dead and seemingly haunted planet. More Metroid than Vania.

    How long is Ghost Song?

How long to beat lists it as 9 hours long.

Nothing insightful to add, just some basic thoughts:

I was struck by the palpable mood of mystery and melancholy, and was surprised by how much I cared for the the writing and characters— always took care to check in with everyone in the camp after a powernap.

I found it to be a mostly successfully engrossing explormer, scroungin' for secrets, and I did enjoy the basic "shoot to build melee-power" combat, though I can see how some could find it unweildy/unsatisfying.

On that point: I can see how the whole experience might feel plodding and frustrating, especially how parched one might be in this desert of save points. Though you unlock shortcuts between them, it is still a bit too unforgiving. There's a fine line between tension/frustration, after all. Oddly enough I didn't really have any issues in this case, though. (Ordinarily I am inclined to be less enthused about this sort of thing)

Ultimately maybe not quite hauntingly great, I still had a good, haunted time with Little Blue!

Also includes a fine addition to any Save Room Music playlists. (One of the best soundtracks of '22?)
