Overview
Highlander: The Game is a cancelled project that was being produced by Eidos. In late 2010, it was confirmed that the game is no longer in development. The game was based on the Highlander film and television franchise and would have followed a new protagonist in Owen MacLeod.
Story
The game's story was written by the head writer of Highlander: The Series. The story begins two thousand years in the past with the main character, Owen MacLeod, the ancestor of Connor MacLeod and Duncan MacLeod, being enslaved by Romans and forced become a gladiator. After being killed in one of his battles, he subsequently returns to life and realizes his immortality. Methos, the oldest living immortal, approaches Owen to be his mentor. He teaches Owen about The Game and how he and other immortals can only be slain by beheading.
Throughout the story, Owen was to be pursued by an arch-nemesis. In order to defeat him, Owen must collect fragments of a magical stone. The game was to follow Owen's quest to recover the fragments and restore the stone in an attempt to gain the power to overcome this foe.
Gameplay
The gameplay was to take advantage of Owen's immortality. For instance, he could use his body as a conductor for high-voltage electrical currents or jump off of tall buildings, only temporarily sustaining injury or a death-like state. Owen was to have other gameplay abilities as well, such as chi balance, fireblade, wind fury and stone armor, among others.
The game was to feature eighteen stages and seventy-seven characters, including Connor and Duncan. It was to also feature numerous swords to collect.
