Giant Bomb's Skippy League 2015 (Season Complete)

It's time to go back to our roots and do some lighthearted Skippy racing!

• All races will be open to anyone, so check for them in the "Hosted" section on iRacing.
• Session opens at 8:50PM ET (12:50AM GMT).
• Practice/Qualifying is 25 minutes and a 30 minute race.
• Fuel will be limited to 2 gallons, so you will need to pit and take ~1 gallon of fuel.
• Course races are standing start.
• Oval race will be rolling start, with cautions and lucky dog.
• All races allow 2 fast repairs. No incident limit.
• Only Giant Bomb members will score points (10 for 1st, falling by 1 point each position). Worst result dropped.

I decided to make a small change to simplify things a bit more; practice is now combined with qualifying (25 minutes). The race will still start a quarter-past the hour.

That should give everyone plenty of time to get in and run some laps. I love the 1-lap qualifying format, but the dreaded 1x ruins it. Now, we battle for pole!

Also, a lot of us will be using Mumble for chat. It's much better quality than iRacing's chat (though, we'll still be able to hear anyone in iRacing of course).

Donington is such an awesome track :D Mid-Ohio is pretty awesome too.

Is anyone planning on doing the Friday night Indy 500 race? It overlaps with our Skippy stuff on the 29th. There's 4 times for Indy this year (Friday, 2 Saturday, Sunday). I'll be doing the 3rd and maybe 4th.

I'd prefer not to push our schedule back, but if you guys want to race Indy on Friday then I'll do it.

Speaking of the Indy 500, we should start a new topic to prepare for that. ;)

If I end up attempting to survive Indy, it'd probably be on the weekend.

Looks like I'll end up missing this week's race, but it's for a worthy cause! Going to go see Mad Max that night. An entire movie devoted to a single car chase? Nothing can stop me from seeing that.

Well, that went better than expected! Good times, but I'll make sure I'm on the mumble next time, not sure if my mic works but it'd at least be good to hear you guys.

So keen for next week at USA International, the only race I ever won in GBRL (I think) was that Charlotte oval one so here's hoping I can do well again. I did few races with other guys in the skippy on ovals and it was pretty rough for those who hadn't practised at all, so I think we should probably have some extra practice time and keep an eye on random folks that wander in without practising at all.

Im not gonna be there again this week (dumb travel...) but I agree with Seb about randoms wandering in with no practice. The only public oval race I've done was on Charlotte with the rookie car and while the front of the pack seemed okay, at least half the field ended up crashing and yelling at each other.

Rule change: adding a drop-week to points to make things more fun for those who missed a race. :)

Since there was no objection to overlapping the 500, we will have our Road Atlanta race this week. ;)

Hey guys, we're going to push the final two Skippy races back a week, and next Friday we're going to have the Second Annual Giant Bomb Indy 125.

I'll make a separate post for it soon, just know that it'll be at the same time slot as our Skippy races; Indy, DW12, 50 laps, fixed setup.

@mouse: Oh don't worry, I'll probably be the one who wrecks on the last turn this time. Can't wait to do it all over again though. That race was a blast even before it ended. Are we keeping the session open or just for GB racers?

@maxx77: I would prefer to keep it exclusive to GB guys. If we can get everyone who has done a Skippy race, that's 10. Plus a few other guys I'd like to invite; ones who used to be regulars and I hope will join us on this special occasion.

I'm especially hesitant to open it to the public because the Daytona race we did a few months back was totally ruined. I'd rather race with a smaller field of duders than risk another disaster like that.

Even though this thread has been quiet, do know that we are indeed wrapping up the season during the next two Fridays.

That race was one of my favorites ever, if not outright. Got swarmed on the start and was nervous that one guy was going to wreck me, so I let him through until we spread out. Eventually managed to get back to 3rd with Slowbird and we had an awesome fight; really clean. Did a crappy pit and had to catch Slowbird again and got lucky as he made a mistake and I escaped drafting range. Then pushed as hard as I could to catch Khann and Iro as the battled. My plan was to catch them and go all-in for the lead on the last lap, and it somehow worked. My heart was pumping so damn hard and I was shaking. Definitely going to make a recap video for YouTube.

Points are really close! I'll need Khann to have a bad result for me to be champion. Iro's in the hunt too but he's got a smaller chance. Battle for 4th between Maxx and Neemer only a point apart.

That was a fun season. Nice to drive the Skippy again, even if it isn't the most exciting car.

As for that last race... yeah, you were much more consistent than me @mouse . Without that mistake we would have been fighting at the end.

Yep, I had a really fun time. Again, congrats to @khann the champion!

I'll open a new topic soon and we'll gather ideas and schedule Friday Night Thunder races. So, check for that topic next week and post any ideas/requests. We'll be doing something next Friday, so see you then!

EDIT: I haven't put up the other topic yet, but I'll let you all know what we're doing next week (26th): Xfinity vs. Trucks at Brands Hatch Indy. How's that for some THUNDER!!! :D

@iron1c yeah i figured out one of the ports of the back of my graphics card is pretty much done for. Luckily it still has 1 working port, but time to upgrade for sure
