    Iron Brigade

Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Jun 22, 2011

Described as "a game about love," Iron Brigade is a goofy alternate-historical WW1-themed third-person shooter/tower defense mash-up where up to four players take control of hulking bipedal tanks and must endure swarms of television-based robots.

Guys... Trenched is out on PC... And it's pretty rad

The subject says it all! It's on sale via Steam right this very instant, duders! Snatch up that baby and start slaughtering tubes the way you were meant to, on a $2000 machine!

I'll probably be in and out from time to time. Summer is still busy for me, but I'm super excited to have Trenched at my desk again. Feel free to add me to share the Love.

Purchased it as soon as the Steam store updated. Been wanting to play it for a long time, just not on my 360. Been enjoying it so far, the humor is great.

Port is fine plays like a 360 game if you use a controller. Except it looks a bit better and runs at a 60fps if your hardware is capable of course.

@FLStyle: @Heltom92: GFWL has a lot (most) of it's games region restricted, even if there is a Steam version you can't buy them in some regions because it is GFWL first and their distribution deal, which i assume they don't have for some regions. For example Arkham City or Gotham City impostors while available on Steam are not available to buy in my region (because they are on GFWL which desn't have it's shit all worked out) there are a lot like these. 99% of the time when a game has GFWL means it's not going to be available, only example contrary to that, that I can think of is Age of Empires Online.

I'll agree the port is fine but just to let you know it's capped at 30 fps just like every other Brutal Legend engine game. It still looks much much better than the 360 version.

@Tennmuerti: That really sucks. Does Microsoft have a justifiable reason for that happening - like maybe licensing or country restrictions? If not, than that's one of the first real knocks (serious one, at that) against GFWL I can say I've witnessed.

@ck1nd: probably the only reason is being stupid. if a game can be everywhere on steam or other platforms but the GFWL version is not than they are just plain dumb. no way around that. "hey, what would be a cool way to NOT make any money? oh right, let's not have our games available in every territory because they use our own super-duper service for no reason"

@DeF: That's sad, but I can see it. I watched a pod-cast with Totalbiscuit the other day that nearly convinced me Microsoft wants to kill the PC market for themselves. They don't make nearly the amount of money from GFWL as they do on the Xbox, and look at where all their innovations are moving for the industry. Sure, Metro is going to be fantastic for the modern-day casual techies, but for the gamers we have to wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Microsoft abandoning ship; especially when their average-grade of "gaming" support has been sub-par without it's communities efforts.

From the official IB Support FAQ on the double fine forums:

Iron Brigade PC is locked to a max of 30 fps. This makes me very angry. What can I do about it?

As of this writing, Iron Brigade PC is a faithful port of the console version and is capped to 30 fps. There is no way to work around this setting, but Double Fine is trying to find the time to modify our engine to support uncapped rendering. If and when we do this, it will be made available on all Buddha engine games (Stacking, CQ, etc).

So unless you have some magically different version of the game you are running at 30 fps like everyone else. It's not a big deal game is fine either way just getting the facts straight.

My FPS counter did record numbers between 30 and 60 earlier but it could just be that the game is ending out a weird signal. It looks like it's 30 for sure though.

    Fraps.

    @DweezilX: @Korwin:

I tried it again today, with both Fraps an DXtory. Game starts up running 60 fps. Once you hit the start button before the initial load of the main menu, the counter drops to 30 fps. Same goes for the ship. So here comes the weird thing, when you go on your mission, the counter still reads 30 fps in both Fraps and DXtory. But! if hit the pause button or start button, something weird happens, the fps counter raises to 60 fps. And it stays there right until you end the mission. When the load screen kicks in it drops again, and when your back on the ship it reads 30 fps yet again.

So there is some weird shit happening in this game.

I don't know whats up with this game, it does run 30 fps. Also feels like it, but sometimes it feels like its more smooth though. As i wrote above there is some weird stuff going on with the game or engine. Cause both applications i used normally always give correct readings. Never had this happen before.

Also just found this on the Steam forums

Fantastic. I was so envious of Xbox owners every time GB did something relating to this over the past year. Now it's finally on my platform of choice, and it looks and plays excellently! I'm a sucker for loot drops.

Note: This game plays alright with KB+Mouse, but an Xbox Controller suits it better on the PC. Analogue salutes makes this a necessity.

Did anyone else catch the Double Fine live stream today with them playing the PC version of Trenched?

It was pretty great. And they got me excited for the live stream they'll be doing here on Giant Bomb on Friday of the sequel to Happy Action Theater.

Well you can just create a bogus GFWL account. i know a few people in the Steam forums were talking about the problem you have. I know a few users were posting methods for getting around the region lock, with little to no effort.

I've made a gfwl/xbox account. It automatically gave me a gamertag (DiscoPolecat+random numbers) then told me I'm able to change it once for free. What a shitty way to do business.

Anyway, this game seems like it would be more fun with other people.

well its a pretty horrible port, frankly just because brad muir is involved i dont think they should be let off the hook , the textures look fucking bland and shitty when uprezzed , the game either runs too fast or doesn't run at a smooth framerate , its like they removed the fps limiter but forgot to adjust animation and input feel to match .. its got GFWL which isn't a dealbreaker for me , but other games get trashed because they have it. there's innumerable console to pc port issues that anyone with pc experience could/should have pointed out , like ... you save and quit to the titlescreen .. just to have to hit enter again to go to the menu and select exit game .. if you just exit game it doesnt save your progress .. this makes sense on the xbox with the dashboard etc but pc games work differently .. and usually give you more options than "press enter". oh yeah and unskippable cutscenes galore .. not that thats specific to the pc version.

just find it funny when dark souls gets so much shit for its pc port , but they basicly stated it would be exactly what its ended up being .. yet apparently nobody is up in arms about the same exact bullshit happening ( and i dont think double fine were going around warning ppl that it was going to be a bad port like from software did) .

so yeah .. i dont care if youre a golden duder nominee or not , explain this shitty steam cash-in , and/or fix it to pc standards.
