Why isn't Trenched coming to PSN?!

Is there something I'm missing? Is Double Fine not independent now?

I was getting really excited for Trenched, only to find that it seems to be an XBLA exclusive, though I haven't actually seen anybody say outright that it wont ever appear on PSN.
Does anyone have any clearer an Idea as to why PSN isn't hopping on the Trenched train?

Edit: whoops, wrong forum. Just imagine it says Trenched rather than General.

Because business. Don't know what deals went down, but it's being published by Microsoft. It was worth it to someone to secure exclusivity and they made sure Double Fine was paid enough to agree.

I think Microsoft may even own this IP. Yeah, it's probably never coming out on PSN.

In this case it's as others have said, the game is being published by MS.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if more and more games forgo a PSN release. A lot of developer comments seem to insinuate that XBLA has always been the more popular and profitable platform, and the whole hacking debacle and month of downtime certainly aren't going to increase business on PSN.

First of all, don't worry about not getting games on PSN any time soon, just sayin'.
Second of all, it's called Summer of Arcade.

What surprises me is that Trenched isn't part of Summer of Arcade.  It's coming out a solid month before.  It's a little odd for such a (probably) good title to not get into that promotion.

Because they decided to go with Toy Soliders instead. I'm sure they want each of the summer of arcade game to be very different, and both of those titles involve tower defense and a silly take on war times. Obviously they're not that similar, but you can see why they would choose only one of the two. It's more about appealing to one of four different segments of the audience with each game.

I agree with not having 2 games of the same type.  But Toy Soldiers was in SoA last year, so you'd think it'd need the promotion less sequels being what they are.  So that implies to me they have great confidence in Trenched since it isn't even being placed near SoA.  They probably fear it'd suck sales from those games.

the toy soldiers sequel is probably why. Since people already played the first one, they figured why not create some hype and put the sequel in this years SoA too. i'll probably be buying trenched anyway though so it doesn't matter to me.

I wouldn't give up hope of a PSN release just yet, as Castle Crashers was originally published by Microsoft Game Studios before being released on PSN, by Sony Computer Entertainment no less.

I would have thought the same thing if not for that disappointing Castlevania game last year proving that quality has nothing to do with whether or not a game gets into the Summer of Arcade.

What's interesting about this whole Microsoft publishing stuff is that Double Fine had problems with it in the past. Psychonauts was supposed to be an Xbox exclusive, with Microsoft publishing (I think), but they backed out so it went to PS2 as well.

Double Fine must have gotten some good vibes (read: money) to hook up with the same company that screwed them over a few years back.

Hopefully Trenched will see a PC release, hell I'll even download it if it was Games for Windows Live only. Actually, I'm not sure why most (if not all) XBLA games aren't Windows Live games a few years after their XBLA release.

Wasn't Castle Crashers originally published by Microsoft? It took a year or two but it was eventually released to PSN. Maybe something similar will happen (though I think it is unlikely).

Trenched is not only published by Microsoft, but was fully funded by them and is wholly owned by them. They own every aspect of it. They could have Rare make a Kinect-based Trenched 2 right now if they wanted to. It's never coming to PSN, sadly.

The Trenched IP is owned by Microsoft and it was a Microsoft published game. Brad Muir said it is coming to the PS3 when Microsoft publish games for PS3... which will be never.

The game was published by MS, and I am pretty sure they own that IP. You could listen to the new podcast or last weeks TNT, in which they talk about this a bit.

It's not even really cynical. There is no compelling reason for MS to go to PSN. Well, beyond pure sales, but that is offset by not promoting it's platform. Do Sony games appear on the 360..curious.
