    Last Half of Darkness 3

Game » consists of 0 releases. Released 1992

The final chapter in the original trilogy of Last Half of Darkness, a series of point and click horror adventure games. Part 3 mixes things up a little with the inclusion of a life meter and a new interface.

    Short summary describing this game.

"Last Half of Darkness 3" (Published in 1993) was intended to be an "Investigative/Horror" adventure game. Much of the game-play involves exploring the environment, finding clues, and attempting to use the correct items in the correct places to solve the mystery, identify the story, and complete the game.

This game is very Non-Linear and can be completed without performing the "Clue Gathering" aspects. Skipping those parts shorten's the length of game play substantially. If you're using this Guide you're either Stuck, Attempting a Speed-Run, or you're extremely curious about this very old, very obscure, and in many ways, not-so-popular game. Either way, you have been warned! ENJOY!

    The Story/Plot (Subject to Correction)

After completing "Last Half of Darkness 2", the player finds that their ship has crashed and they awake near a creepy run down village out in the middle of no-where. The Village and its' residence are victims of the experiments of an evil sadistic witch who they murdered by burning her at the stake in the middle of the town center. However, killing her caused the town to fall under the effects of a curse brought upon them by the disembodied spirit of the deceased witch who continues to haunt and torture them.

Note - Other than being the returning "Protagonist" player from the first two games, there is no other links between this game and the first two.

    Tips For Playing

TIPS -If you're playing this game in an Emulator like DOSBox its probably running at a cycle rate such of 3000 to 4000.

When you scroll through Items in your Inventory, or "Chat Options" for Speaking it's best to Lower this rate to 500 or less else you will move past items so fast that you won't see them. Use the Hot-Keys to change the cycling rate on the spot instantly.

Raise this back up to at least 2000 or more when finished with Item/Chat Option, else changing rooms and selecting areas on the lower right hand map will be heavily delayed and lag making it unbearable.

    "Secret Copy-Write Words"

During game play the game may freeze and ask that you enter secret "Words" in-order to continue playing. This is a form of Copy Write protection that can only be obtained from the Game's Instruction Manuals which are long gone. Thankfully the words were obtained and made available.

    INTRODUCTION,SECOND,JOURNEY // INTRODUCTION,THIRD,BEGINS,

    INSTALLATION,SECOND,DISKS // INSTALLATION,THIRD,PROVIDED,

    STARTING,FIFTH,LOAD // KEYBOARD,FIFTH,JOYSTICK,

    TALKING,THIRD,OBJECT // STARTING,THIRD,TIME

    TIPS,FIFTH,LEVEL // STARTING,SECOND,FIRST

    These words are organized thus:

Section to look under, which word it is,and what the word actually is.

In other words: "Please type the Second word under Introduction" means JOURNEY

    How to use this Guide

This game has no set time limit, though it does have "Event Triggers", and half the game-play is just gathering clues. Therefore this guide organizes Rooms, locations, Items, and Objectives by References to other parts so you can determine what you need on your own, and direct yourself accordingly.

There is only one ending to this game and it is the same regardless of your actions from start to completion. If you find it "Confusing" it's best to read the entire guide through and become familiar with it's referrals, that way when you play the game, it will be much easier to tell where you are and at what point in each task.

Objectives / Goals - How to Actually Win The Game

In order to win the game you will need Two Items. A Skull filled with a special Boiling Potion, and a "Bone" fragment missing from the witch's corpse. Both of these items will be used on the remains of the previously "Burned Witch" located in the middle of the "Town Center".

WARNING - It is possible to Misuse these items using them with Tellia, getting rid of them forever and making it impossible to complete the game. This will NOT activate a "Game Over", the game will simply continue, but you will not be able to finish the game or reclaim the items, and they will not re-spawn. Hope you Saved!

Items Necessary to Complete the Game

Witch's Missing Bone - You obtain this Bone from a Dog that appears in two separate locations through out the game. First as a dog without the Bone in the "Pub" at the beginning of the game. Secondly, in the hideout of the "Vamps".

Skull full of Boiling Potion - In order to receive the Skull of Boiling potion you must First find all Three Ingredients for the "Good Witch", Tellia, who is located in the Cabin near the Swamp, so she can make it. After receiving the Non-Boiling potion you must take it, along with a Secret Stone , to the "Horror House" so the old man can add the final ingredient to make it "Boil".

    • Three Ingredients for the Potion - Eghoul Hair Tonic, Bottle of Old Crow, and a Crow's Feather.
      • STORY NOTE - Tellia tells you that the "Ghost of her Sister" in the Mansion can tell you the ingredients. This lets you know that she is in-fact one of the three Morrison Sisters. Each sister fits a profile, the God Witch, the Evil Witch, the Beautiful Neutral Witch.
      • You see her sister in a brief cut-animation inside the mansion and her obscure "THREE BIRDS OF THE FEATHER WILL HELP KILL FOREVER" riddle is the clue in what Items make up the potion. Your supposed to look for Three items related to "Birds".
    • Secret Magic Stone Ingredient - You are never told that this Magic Stone is actually apart of the Skull of Potion. There is an obscure Riddle that serves as a clue that the potion NEEDS to be boiling to work. As I said, the Magic Stone is a "Secret Ingredient" required by the Horror House Creepy Old Man.

    Items to Find/Use

You will notice that a few of the items are only used to obtain access to Clues to other things, Such as the Silver Coin and Computer Disk secret formula. These items are not necessary to complete the game and can be skipped because this guide has already provided the Clue's answers.

CANDLE STICK - You start the game with a Candle Stick in your Inventory. The Candle Stick does nothing in the game. If you attempt to use it on something. It simply says you cannot set it on fire. It servers no other purpose.

CROW'S FEATHER - This is one of ingredients in Tellia's "Potion". To obtain the Feather you must First Free the Caged Bird located in the Mansion's Secret Laboratory. Second, you must Use the Bird Seed on the Post that is covered in Bird Droppings, located on the "WARF" right after you leave the starting Alley. After Using the Bird Seed on the post, you must leave then return. Place the Bird in your inventory to obtain the Feather.

BIRD SEED - Use the Bird Seed to summon a crow and obtain the Crow's Feather. You get the Bird Seed from the Kitchen Freezer inside the Mansion. There is a closed box located to the right of the hanging dead woman. Open the Box first, then take the Bird Seed.

Scroll down to ask him "If he has anything stronger?"

SPANISH SILVER COIN -You use the Silver Coin to play the Space Game inside the Arcade and Obtain the Computer Disk after Scoring 1,000 points.

COMPUTER DISK - You use the Computer Disk on the Computer in the Secret Laboratory. This gives you the correct Mixing Order to fill the Duel Syringe with Brown Liquid.

DUEL SYRINGE - First, you can use this immediately on the "Caged Bird" inside the Laboratory to free it. Immediately after that, you can fill the Duel Syringe with liquid located under the Bird Cage in this order "Green , Pink, then Blue", to make the "Brown Liquid". Messing up the order causes the Lab to explode.

EGHOUL HAIR TONIC - Give this to Tellia for her potion. You obtain this from Terllia's Cabin in the woods. It's sitting on a small box to the left in-front of the Bed.

HAMMER - Use the Hammer to open the Crate and get the Secret Magic Stone. You can only obtain this after using the Sleeping Pills on the Police officer's coffee. While the police officer is asleep, The Vamp gang uses it to Kill the Store Owner then rob him.

This will not Trigger until the police officer is asleep.

KNIFE - You obtain this Knife from the Kitchen inside the Mansion. This item is a "Red Herring". You can use it to Kill the Dog with the Bone, but doing this will cause the dog to turn into a girl and Trigger "Game Over". It serves NO other purpose other than that. "Don't Kill the Dog".

This cannot be used on anything else other than the Dog.

MOLD SPICE - Use this on the Puddle of Green Mold to prevent the Mold Beast from coming out and killing you.

SECRET MAGIC STONE - The Secret Ingredient for the Skull of Boiling Potion. Bring this to the Creepy Old Man in the Horror House. He will not take it until you have the potion from Tellia.

In order to get the Stone, you get the Hammer used by the Vamp Gang to kill the Store Owner to open the Cracked Wooden Crate inside the Warehouse located in the Town Center. The Crate Says "Fragile". After opening it, you will see a Pink Stone that is "Warm". You must have the "Dampened" Wet Towel and Use it on the Pink stone before you can get it.

SLEEPING PILLS - Use the Sleeping Pills on the Police Officer's Coffee. You must keep enter the Police Station periodically. Sometimes the Officer will be at his Desk, sometimes he will be gone, but his Cup of Coffee will be sitting there unattended. You get the Sleeping Pills from the Second Floor of the Mansion. The Room on the right has a Dresser and Mirror. Open this Dresser to get the Pill Bottle.

SPOON - Use the Spoon on the small Vent located in the Jail Cell to Open the Vent and Escape the Cell. That's all this item is good for. Some actions will cause you to be arrested in the game. To obtain the spoon and escape you must talk to the Cell Door and select "Aaaaaaarrrgg!" from the Chat Options. Yelling will summon a Guard. Speak with the Guard and Choose "Bring me something to eat" from the chat Options. Eat the food, and take the spoon.

STRANGE BOX - Use this Box to obtain the "Small Trinket". You find the Strange Box inside the Mansion. There is a messed up room with a two drawer dresser on the left. Open the Drawers to reveal the Box and take it. Bring it to the Very well decorated room with a Burning Fire and woman's Portrait over the bed. Use the Strange Box in the fire.

SMALL TRINKET - You need this to get past the Vamp Gang and enter their secret hideout. You do not need to use the item on them. You must have it selected in your inventory, and the gang will just let you walk past them. Get this from the Strange Box.

SKULL OF POTION - After giving Tellia all three ingredient, she will use the empty Skull next to her and fill it with potion. Right now the potion is useless because it's not boiling.

FLUFFY/WET TOWEL - Use the Towel in order to obtain the Magic Stone. You get the Fluffy Towel from the Bathroom in the Bedroom with the Sleeping Pills. You need to use this Towel in running water to get it wet. There are three places to do this.
