Admittedly, I've yet to buy the game, but I had played it over at bestbuy, the full version (not the demo kiosk).
Since then, I've sort of taken LBP off my to buy list.
Where's the appeal of the game exactly? I'm sort of wondering.
It feels like a rather unsatisfying platformer where largely it's about collection orbs and jumping over stuff. It just doesn't feel like a full $60 game,
I only played the levels, I didn't make one.
Is the whole enjoyment from making one or playing a X themed level? Or was the impression the game left me with wrong?
I'm really hoping for the latter.
LittleBigPlanet
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Oct 27, 2008
Lead the way as a player-created Sackperson in the highly customizable side-scrolling world of LittleBigPlanet, where players can play, create, and share 2.5D levels with their friends and the whole PSN community.
Why do you like Little Big Planet?
The joy of the game is that the community is constantly making new things so the game never tires. It's fresh everytime you logon.
The appeal is that you can make virtually anything your imagination and patience will allow.
its fun to play co-op with a friend or people online. and obviously the main appeal of LBP is its community created levels. and the game is very charming. but honestly, i haven't touched it in like months, thats because im busy with other games. i'll prob come back to it later on.
Game is a asshole with region locking and thats why i sold it a month later.
I have a european copy and a american PSN and you cant go online unless you make a account of the country you bought your game in.
"SmugDarkLoser said:Why is that fail? I did the same thing, I just couldnt get into this game. I really tried, the sp just wasnt very fun and I didnt see the point in making any levels. I saw vid's of lots of levels that people spend many many hrs on, THEY LOOK BORING AS HELL!!! I think it could have been a better game if it played more like mario or something, it just didnt cut it for me. If I had no other games to play for months except this, I would play it, but given the other options I have its not worth the time.I only played the levels, I didn't make one. "Fail."
Judging a game like LittleBigPlanet without using its level creator, which is it's purpose is a fail.
"Judging a game like LittleBigPlanet without using its level creator, which is it's purpose is a fail. There is enough SP there that you dont need to use the level editor unless you want to. I would have wanted to make a level if they didnt looks so boring and lame. If they made a SMG lever editor I would be all over it, that is fun gameplay. LBP is not, every vid I see, the comments are "cool looking level, looks boring as hell to play though"Not liking level creation is one thing, but expecting to like one even though you don't is just . . . FAIL!"
"Kratos81 said:Amen to that.if they did i would jizz my pants and put my wii on a pedestal"
If they made a SMG lever editor
I actually didn`t like the game much either, but I can see why people do, it`s just the feeling of a community and building your own levels which I suck at.
I was asked a similar question by some BAFTA people in a video interview, our version of the Oscars. I said something along the lines of, "the game is a good as the community want's it to be, all Media Monocule need to do is to make sure they pay attention to them and provide them with adequate tools to realize their creativity" I wanted to ply some criticisms concerning fundamental flaws, but they stopped filming lol.
The game is basically all about its editor. The whole point is to allow people to make their own levels and even games — something a lot of people would like to do, but realistically they don't have the skill or willpower to follow through with learning to do the real thing. And let's make no mistake about this: it's an extremely sophisticated editor.
It's kind of like how Guitar Hero taps into that desire everyone has to play awesome music, even though most people just don't have the willpower to dedicate the oodles of time learning an instrument needs. It takes the same end, but makes the means more accessible.
The single player-campaign is excellent and does things no other side-scrolling platformer has done, but it's really just a precursor to playing and making community levels. Indeed, everything you see and hear in the single-player campaign is 100% creatable by yourself, and while there is a lot of crap created by the community there're also many gems. Finding the good levels is getting easier as the search/rating tools have continually improved with patches, etc.
It may not be for everyone, but you know what? Neither is Metal Gear Solid, nor Halo, nor Zelda. If you don't like it, don't think you're missing some kind of wondrous magic that only the enlightened can see — you simply don't like it, and that's that.
An anecdotal note from myself: girls seem to really like it.
WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!
Well the absolute best thing to do with LBP is the customisation of your character and collecting all the things on other peoples levels online and building your own levels or playing online with friends so all together it is definitely worth your money to buy this game if you do have online.

"I can't think for any good performers on the PS3 besides LittleBigPlanet."*platformers, right?
Honestly, it's another good troll attempt by Smug. I love the way he tries to make it sound like he actually owns a PS3 and that makes him less of a troll because of it.
I actually quite enjoyed the single player campaign but the main appeal is definitely the content the community provides. Every time I start the game up there is something new. ... that and you really have to not hate cute characters ;-)
I absolutely love LBP for many of the reasons listed above but I also think people should give credit to the simple "video game-ness" of it. The visuals are incredible. The textures and physics in the game are more lifelike than anyone gives them credit for. The game even has physics-driven sound effects! Speaking of sound, I can't speak for everyone but the music is also phenomenal. What's more, you can edit songs and cue them in levels however you want. The entire package comes off like the developers intended to make a game that a person could play for literally years without it growing old.
"Reason To Love It:OH MAN, i gotta try out all that Contra levels!!!!!!!!
Reason To Hate It:"
I'm freaking obsessed with LBP!
It's one of the only games I play.
It's awesome because it's fun, unbelievably cute (yet difficult sometimes) and it makes me happy :P
And you can create your own levels and play other people's levels, it's just freaking epic.
Playing LittleBigPlanet for the singleplayer is like going on vacation for the airplane peanuts. I've never even played the game and I know this, Smug.
Sheesh!
"Playing LittleBigPlanet for the singleplayer is like going on vacation for the airplane peanuts. I've never even played the game and I know this, Smug.Sheesh!"To make that metaphor accurate those peanuts would have to really, really awesome.

I've seen dozens of levels online that match or surpass the quality of the story levels. It's designed to be a good game but also to show the users what the software is capable of."
My point is that LBP's "thing" is the multiplayer database and creation tools. Not the single player.
We should totally get TheJollyRajah in this thread. He is a GiantBomb member who is also a moderate celebrity within the GiantBomb community for his AMAZING music levels.
Perhaps he could explain what it feels like becoming an LBP celeb.
So essentially what you guys are saying is that it's more or less an aesthetics game?
I dunno, I care more for having fun in a unique presentation of gameplay and story.
Creating a mario themed level doesn't wow me. Why not just create a mod?

dude, why don't you just get it, or rent it, and play it for yourself. if you don't like it than return it, but if you happened to like, then buy it. its simple

Probably not.
I mean reading Smuggy's post again, what's an "aesthetics" game? You mean a game based around how it looks? Well... I don't think any of us mentioned that as the reasons we like it. I mean, sure, it does have an amazingly quirky, charming presentation but, it's not all about its aesthetics. It's all about the playbox style gameplay. You can do whatever the fuck you want. Make some cars, make a full level, write a song, make a puzzle, play other peoples levels.
There actually is a story in the single player too. Amazingly.
Media Molecule thought of everything.

Ack! I didn't mean to insinuate that you couldn't understand anything, I meant to say that Smug will never make sense. My bad, if that caused offense!
