Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Intro
The game starts off with a little cut scene, so enjoy! At Peach's Castle, the ambassador from the Beanbean Kingdom arrives to improve ties with their kingdom and the Mushroom Kingdom. They give Princess Peach a gift. When the gift is opened, gas comes out and spreads over the princess's face. The ambassador was a fake! It was the evil Cackletta and Fawful from the Beanbean Kingdom. They collect the gas from Peach's face and the princess is then unconscious. Cackletta and Fawful escape and make their way back to the Beanbean Kingdom.
Back at Mario and Luigi's house, Luigi is putting Mario's clothes on a clothes line. A Toad goes to their house yelling about the emergency. Luigi doesn't understand what the Toad is talking about, and Toad rushes past Luigi in their house.
This is where you have your first controls. You can only move Toad around and nothing else. Walk left into the Bathroom where smoke is coming out and you can hear Mario humming. Toad goes in and screams while rushing out. He runs into a desk and gets injured. Mario comes out with a towel wrapped around his waist. He walks to Toad. The Toad doesn't say anything except "Princess Peach". Mario rushes outside and jumps into his hanging clothes. Luigi is tied up in the rope that hung Mario's clothes and is drug to Peach's Castle.
As Mario and Luigi race their way to Peach's Castle, Bowser makes it their first. Mario stops before crashing into Bowser, but Luigi is pulled into Bowser and is loosened from the rope. Bowser gets mad and starts fighting Mario. This is your first battle. Mario controls with A. If you need help, there is a guide at the bottom-right of the bottom screen on the 3ds. He also shoots flames at you. You have to be careful when to jump, or you might accidentally hit the flame from above. After defeating Bowser, he immediately gets up and tells Mario and Luigi that it's not time to fight. Toad explains what happened to the princess. Cackletta from the Beanbean Kingdom stole the princess's voice and changed it to explosive vocabulary. Bowser disagrees in kidnapping the princess this way, so he wants to team up with Mario to stop Cackletta. He agrees to let Mario and Luigi ride his Koopa Cruiser to the Beanbean Kingdom. After Bowser says that, Peach tries to speak a big sentence, and everyone has to run out of the castle.
Outside the Castle
Their are many things to do before leave the Mushroom Kingdom. The Toad in front of you explains that you can get yourself back into shape by doing things in the area to stretch out. If you go to the Toad on the far left hedge, he will say that he lost a "precious item". He says it's somewhere in that area. If you go down while still on the hedge, your jump icon will change into a "!". There you will find the "precious belonging". After you give it to him, he gives you a 1-Up Mushroom. That precious belonging must be very precious if he gives you a LIFE for it! If you talk to Luigi, he will explain that Bowser went upwards from where you are. To the right of Luigi, a Koopa Troopa will be there. If you talk to him, he will say that he is lost and he doesn't know where Bowser is. If you follow Luigi's information and tell the Koopa Troopa to go "↑ Thatta Way", then you will bring him to the right place before any of the other Bowser Baddies. If you talk to the Toad next to the hedge with the mushroom, he will say that he can't reach his mushroom. If you get it and say that you got it for him, he lets you keep it AND gives you a Super Mushroom. If you go ahead, you will see two more Toads that talk about the save book. If you don't know what it is, it is a book that when you hit it, you can save your file. There are two save files in the game. Before you go ahead, Toadsworth calls for you and gives you your suitcase. You can now press Start to open the suitcase. It shows your items, stats, gear, and more. He also gives you 100 coins for your trip. Toadsworth asks Luigi if he's going with Mario, but Luigi decides to stay and... protect the castle once again. As you go ahead, the Koopa Cruiser and Bowser are waiting for you. Bowser introduces his Koopa Cruiser. Bowser can't go yet because all his Bowser Baddies aren't all their yet. Luigi waves goodbye and Bowser mistakes it as Luigi wanting to join the crew. Bowser accepts and Luigi tries to run away until all the Bowser Baddies appear and block the exit. As the Baddies enter on board, Luigi sneaks past them. Someone tells Bowser about Luigi, and Bowser catches Luigi with a robotic arm from the Koopa Cruiser.
Koopa Cruiser
Someone on the speakers calls Mario and "Green Guy" (or "Mr. Green Mario Brother Guy") to the deck. Up ahead, a bunch of Koopa Troopas are practicing their skills that you can do, such as pressing X for both Mario and Luigi to jump at the same time and pressing A for Mario only and B for Luigi only. Up ahead, other Koopa Troopas are showing how Bros. Blocks work. Mario has to be under the block and Luigi has to be on the side where the arrow is pointing. When the block is hit, the block moves the direction points, so Mario and Luigi have to jump different times repeatedly.
Go ahead, and a Koopa Troopa with a camera will tell you that you can't pass the border without photos. When you take a picture, you can press different directions on the control pad to change poses. Go ahead and continue. Don't go to the next area until you go south. The Koopa Troopa below was the lost Koopa from "Outside the Castle" (above). If you followed the directions, he will thank you and give you a 1-Up Mushroom. If you go ahead, there will be a barrel in your way, you have to push it and it breaks. A Koopa Troopa sees you and tells you to be careful. He gives you the option to show you how to fight as a team. He will break the nearby barrel which holds a Goomba in it. You will have to fight it. Go ahead and you will find another barrel in your way. You have to break this one and take out the Goombas in it. If you followed everything correctly, and fought every monster you could face by then, Mario will now be on Level 2. It's recommended that Mario increases his BP, POW, and STACHE is optional. You don't have to follow this, but sometimes it's nice to make Mario the buff one and Luigi the healthy one in the team. Go ahead, and you will see a Koopa Troopa trying to catch two Goombas. One of the Goombas you fight will be the Goomba captain you play as in Bowser's Minions, but that will be explained in the walkthrough for Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Minions (below). You have to help the Koopa Troopa catch the two Goombas. The Koopa Troopa will show you how to do early damage in a battle. After you defeat the two Goombas, Luigi will be Level 2 as well as Mario. Like as said above, it is recommended that Luigi increases his HP, DEF, and STACHE is also optional for Luigi. After defeating the two Goombas, go ahead and you will find more Koopa Troopas.
The first Koopa Troopa will talk about the save folder again. The Koopa Troopa ahead talks about hitting the ! Block activates a crane. You can't get ahead because there are a bunch of barrels and crates in the way. You have to activate the crane to get the barrels out of the way. The crane accidentally picks up Luigi and the Koopa Troopa says that Luigi can be used as a lookout. After Mario and Luigi make it to the deck, Bowser is told that they almost cross the border. Luigi will see something ahead. An explosion hits Bowser back and Luigi gets loosened off the crane and bounces off Bowser. The Koopa Cruiser caught up to Cackletta and Fawful. Cackletta goes ahead while Fawful stays behind to slow the Mario Bros. down. He knocked out Bowser and fights Mario and Luigi together. Fawful's attacks are controlled based on the color of his words. If the words are red, he is attacking Mario. If the words are green, he is attacking Luigi. Be careful of that. If you didn't know that, Bowser would tell you if you wanted him to. If you do enough attacks, his headgear is damaged and he has to land. Now his attacks are rolling into you. He will pause in front of who he attacks for a few moments, so keep your eyes on him. If you just want to learn his moves without having to take too much damage, you can hold X in battle and it will activate Emergency Guard. When the battle is over, he collects his headgear again, and the battle ends. He damages the ship and escapes. When the Koopa Cruiser crashes, two unknown people watch Mario and Luigi crash into an area nearby them.
