    Overview

Maxely is the main character in a book entitled "Maxely the Hobbe", he was unusually intelligent and wished to live among humans, so he found a rich noble, killed him and stole his clothes. He walked into Bowerstone wearing his new threads, and the people mistaked him for a human (although a rather short one). However, it all came to a bad end when Maxely forgetting himself grunted hello, in his native tounge. He was killed on the spot.

    The Poem

    Compiled by the Bowerstone schoolmaster.

There once was a hobbe, and Maxely was his name,
He was that rarest of hobbes; one with a brain.
One day he decided to travel to town,
So he slew a great nobleman and put on his gown.
In the vilage, by all he was complimented,
And though short in stature, he stood proud and erected.
But Maxely forgot who he was and grunted "hello",
And when they heard his voice, all they did know.
They called for the guards, who lopped off his head,
It stuck on a pike, dumb, ugly, and dead.
So before you open your mouth remember Maxely the hobbe,
For 'tis better to be thought an idiot than to be killed bhy a mob.
