Get ready with your pinches of salt. A "credible source" has leaked some interesting information to iWaggle.com regarding the Metal Gear Soild franchise. iWaggle's source claims that Metal Gear Solid: Rising has had a very complicated development, and that the project is now being worked on by none other than PlatinumGames, with the great Hideki Kamiya taking the helm. It doesn't end there, she also claims that Metal Gear Solid 5 is in development and is intended for release on this generation of consoles. Yes, I said consoles, according to the source Metal Gear Solid 5 will be a multi-format release on all major consoles, including NGP and possibly 3DS also. Ha, It doesn't end there, the source also claims Konami intend to release PC versions of  Metal Gear Solid 1 - 4 on the Steam download service.

Remember that Kojima Productions developed a rather expensive engine for Metal Gear Solid 4, which to my memory they haven't really used except for Rising I believe. So say if Kojima Productions felt that the team developing Rising were best served working on say, I dunno Metal Gear Solid 5 then that would be a very realistic possibility. It's a rumour that could have some legs.

Pretty sure we will see new Metal Gear Solid at E3! But will that be Metal Gear Solid 5 or a possible Metal Gear Solid collection in HD?

Wow. This is awesome. Platinum are a seriously talented team and their console track record with Bayonetta and Vanquish can attest to that. They make quality games and I know that only good things can come from this.

Also, They recently delayed Anarchy Reigns so this may be the reason why. Another thing to note is that Kojima made a statement something like the past work for the year has gone to waste or soemthing. Maybe he was meaning that the work done on Rising by the previous developer needed to be done away with so Platinum can finish it.

Unfortunately this probably also means a delay for Rising :(

This sounds like dangerously high levels of Japanese crazy packed into one game. We have to watch out, they might create a singularity.

That'd be cool. Especially since it's an engine that's already proven it's worth on the PS3. Bayonetta was a fucking incredible game, but the PS3 version was severly lacking compared to the 360.

    This.

Also, if this is true, this is going to be by far the most advanced game PlatinumGames have ever worked on tech-wise. I'm really excited to see what they'll do with Kojima Productions' engine.

Vanquish seemed to have a lot going on and still maintained pretty decent visuals and performance. Not sure what engine they were using.

Indeed. I still haven't played 4 yet and was planning to get around to it soon, but if there is a chance it's going to be released on Steam I might have to wait and see...
Replaying MGS3 on PC in high resolution without having to deal with PCSX2 would be fantastic, too!

Yeah, probably a bit too good to be true.

How can you play MGS4 for PC without a SIXAXIS or DS3 Controller? How will Psycho Mantis react about the controller?

If they do port it to PC, then the PS3 references have to be removed.

@Jack268: He's specifically talking about the parts requiring Sixaxis functionality I think. I'm sure they'll figure something out and make it work, if this is at all true.

If MGS5 is announced it automatically becomes my most anticipated game.

Simply for the fact that I want them to be true, I endorse these rumours 100%.

In order to stay topical: Konami actually ordered Rising be canceled, as for some fucking reason the ONLY IDEA for Rising was "So we made a cutting mechanic and thought, OMG Raiden has a sword! This can work!" and after TWO YEARS of not having anything to show for it, Konami told them to cancel it. It was then that Kojima invited someone from Platinum Games to the studio to make something with it and present it to Konami.

So, for all ye who cry foul, no matter what, the Rising we were introduced to would never have been.

Well, try to create a mechanic where you can slice everything but you need to hide because... Well, reasons. Even if the project was going to continue, it wouldn't work.

This is probably the best thing that could have happened to MGS: rising. Platinum does Japanese crazy better than anyone else, and that's what this game needs.
