Yeah... small town murder mystery... open-world game... NPCs go about their business, opening and closing their shops regardless of the player's actions... sounds a whole hell of A LOT like Deadly Preminition. Weird.

But besides the plot and the setting, the specific gameplay mechanics and the dynamics of the world sound very similar.

It does sound pretty cool, but a PSOne game with no (voice acted) dialogue would make for a pretty uninteresting ER. But hey, at least it's not like a SNES JRPG everybody has already played. Oh wait...

In the game, are the owls not what they seem? Is there a black lodge? More twin peaks references?

Sounds pretty interesting, and I have a soft spot for Human, but a Google search worryingly brings up the Kusoge Matome@Wiki (the Japanese repository for shitty games) within the first few hits.  Some of the stronger criticisms appear to be "frequently and incessantly crashes" and "unbeatable without a guide".  The world looks super realized though, and it's clear that the game extremely ambitious.  It's not a super rare game, but it does look fairly uncommon, according to my detailed metrics of Look at Ebay (0 copies), Look at Yahoo Japan (1 copy), and Look at Amazon JP Marketplace (Around a dozen copies).

Which game are you talking about here? Because if it's Deadly Premonition, then I have some strong disagreements to your statement. Right, Zach?

Wow, that actually looks pretty damn intriguing but unless there's a fan translation out there I'll never be able to play it. I love games that simulate everyday life and situations, such as Shenmue and Bully. Cool find.

The game looks rather clunky now, but I can't imagine what it must have been like in the game's day. The fact that an open-world game like this existed on the PS1 of all consoles is pretty wild.

There's another PSOne era game that gets compared to Mizzurna Falls called Germs: Nerawareta Machi, which came out 7 months later and was made by a super obscure group called KAJ (as far as I can tell, this was their only console game, and they've rebranded and do social gaming stuff now).  Similar to Mizzurna, it's an open world exploration game that is fully rendered in 3D and takes place in an expansive American town, also with the ability to drive around.  This one is more sci-fi themed, from what I understand, I got sort of an Andromeda Strain vibe from it.

Ah. I did not know that. It's kind of funny to see how games did this sort of gameplay before GTAIII came along.

@buzz_killington@MooseyMcMan@Mikemcn: Ok then, it's settled. Tonight I will begin with the P4 ER episode 1 and hopefully watch one episode a night. Or more. Probably more? Yeah.

Actually, I'll go Deadly Premonition first. Should I watch VJ or BR? From what I understand, Jeff & Vinny's are way more entertaining.

@AhmadMetallic: I disagree. I think the Brad/Ryan was better because Ryan actually liked Deadly Premonition. He gets really into it, especially near the end.

But, on the other hand you have to watch Brad being Brad, which is either a hilarious or frustrating thing, depending on your tastes.

I watched both, but I am not like other men... Jeff and Vinnys was technically better, but Bradley is my favorite GB crew member.
