Early Life
Nastasha was born in Ukraine, and her family was among the thousands exposed to the nuclear fallout resulting from the Chernobyl crisis. This greatly affected her opinions on nuclear disarmament, and would later fuel her activism in nuclear non-proliferation. She moved to the USA after her parents' deaths, and worked at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) in 1992, where she met her husband Richard Ames. This union led to quick divorce, as they were constantly arguing. She left in 1995 to pursue her anti-nuclear goals, and later joined the Nuclear Emergency Search Team (NEST) in 1996 as a military and nuclear analyst.
In 2005 Nastasha was forced by Richard Ames to aid Solid Snake via Codec in quelling the FOXHOUND Rebellion at Shadow Moses. She mostly briefed Snake regarding anti-nuclear non-proliferation efforts (the fictitious Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty 3 among other things), helping him frame the importance of stopping FOXHOUND within the context of nuclear power relations and the dire ramifications of failing the mission. In addition to this, she also provides very detailed military information regarding the weapons, equipment, etc that Snake encounters during the course of his mission.
Throughout the course of the mission Nastasha slowly became privy to several classified government secrets, even coming close to realising the existence of the Patriots. Fearing that she would not be allowed to live after knowing so much, she fled California and became much more involved in anti-nuclear efforts. Her most prominent activity would be the publication of In The Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth, which was an exposé of the events that transpired in Shadow Moses. She then donated the royalties to the funding of Snake and Otacon's anti-Metal Gear organisation, Philanthropy. She is assumed to be still on the run from the Patriots.
Nastasha was not directly involved in the events of the Big Shell Incident, although her ex-husband Richard Ames did die after the Patriots stopped his pacemaker. In a Codec conversation, Snake revealed to Raiden that Nastasha was the author of the book called In The Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth, which detailed the events of the Shadow Moses Incident and her relationship with Ames.
Nastasha assisted Snake and Otacon in forming Philanthropy but disappeared soon afterwards.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Her role here is once again limited as her most notable contribution is providing Otacon with intelligence regarding Dwarf Gekkos.
Trivia
